Global Awareness: The Diabetes walk

Now, though Baruch seems to stress attendance to workshops outside our own comfort zones, I didn’t think it’d mean actually finding excuses to fill one of the categories because there weren’t many workshops, but that’s what happened with the global awareness one!

I had actually planned on doing the Heart walk the week previous to this one, but I only remembered it a day in advance, so I opted instead to do the diabetes walk because: for one, a good cause is a good cause, no matter what. Two, it’d fulfill the workshop requirements, and three, it was a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge (+ surrounding areas) and back, which is usually nice.

The walk itself wasn’t anything to really write home about, and I went with two friends and we were just enjoying the scenery. Some of the volunteers looked bored out of their minds, while others seemed to be making up for it with their enthusiasm. Luckily the weather was almost perfect, except for the slight chill about the air. I can’t say I had the same enthusiasm as some of the others, simply because it was a cause I couldn’t relate to. I did feel bad for leaving such a minimal donation though (only $5) but I guess I lack the compassion to donate to a charity with lots of pictures, vs a single poor beggar who’s crippled walking about the streets
