I attended the club fair, on 9/24/09. I actually had a lot of fun. While I didn’t join any of the clubs I learned a lot about the baruch experience. I met some new people, and enjoyed the music they played.
This workshop was entitled “managing relationships” and thats what it helped me with, it tought me a little more about communication within Baruch and how to better my relationship within the Baruch realm. I can see this as being the second most useful workshop i attended because now i feel a lot more comfortable relating to the Baruch community.
I didn’t get to attend a Personal Enrichment workshop, I am writing a response to it instead. I was looking through the workshops that were offered and I saw some about stress and anxiety which really caught my eye. I think that would be very helpful to most college students, especially freshman trying to adjust to college in their first semester.
I went to the Managing Relationships in College Workshop on Wednesday, October 7 from 10:45-12. I really liked the setup of the whole workshop where we interacted with various other students and discussed with each other how to deal with the many types of relationships, such as those with family and friends. We then shared all that with the workshop director who talked to us about all the personal problems and solutions and how to stay on top of the game in having healthy and productive relationships.
The student services fair was packed son. there were over 12 stations and you had to get a card hole punched. you had to get your card punched 10 times before getting your passport signed. after that, you would have wished that you could have punch yourself ten times, instead. at each of the offices, there was info about all the different offices and services avail. to students. there was the Bursar office, Financial Aid, and the registrar, for example. very beneficial workshop. However, all this info is online anyway. A++++ workshop anyway imho. xoxo
I went to the Stress and Anxiety Reduction Workshop. It was an interesting and pleasant experience. There was discussion and tips concerning stress and how to relieve it. The tips were informative and helpful to perhaps use in the future.
I also attended the conference debate, hosted by Baruch College, titled “Where Can We Turn to Avoid 10% Unemployment”. It was a wonderful experience: especially since I consider myself a politic enthusiast. Two democrats, two Republicans, and a host; What more could you ask for? The Debate touched topics from incorporating Big Box stores in the poor areas of New York to overpaid areas of New York City that didn’t need money at all. Very nice experience and I was on tv!
I attended a special interview hosted by Baruch College themed “Where Can We Turn To Avoid 10% Unemployment” on November 10th. The guest speakers were David Jones from the Community Service Society, 2 economists, and a representative from the Federal Reserve Bank. There were alot of interesting proposals made throughout the interview on how to decrease the unemployment rate, however what resonated in my mind was the idea to bring in big- box stores into the boroughs of New York to create more jobs and get things moving. My classmates Arnon, Heri, and Grits all disagreed with this notion. Along with the wise old hermit we met in the pizza shop down the block, we all came to the agreement that Walmart is the scum of the earth. Ok. Bye.
I attented the stress and anxiety reduction workshop on november 10th. It was a cool experience. The doctor who was running the workshop made us do a few activities that could relieve stress and help us understand stress better. The meditation tape that he played was relaxing and showed how we can relieve some stress. It was an interesting workshop to go to.
Attending the student services fair allowed me to learn more about other programs that exist within Baruch. Some of these programs were not at the Freshmen convocation so, it was a great way of learning about them. One of the tables I stopped by was the study abroad.I was surprised to see how many different places you could study abroad.
I went to the club fair on september 24, 2009, and it was great. There were an incredible amount of people but everybody looked like they were having fun. It looked like there was a little niche for everyone and the club members were very friendly and answered my questions fully. I am glad I took the time out to go to the club fair.
