Einstein’s Dream

Einstein’s Dreams adapted by David Gardiner and Ralf Erik Remshardt from the novel by Alan Lightman, and it was directed by Brian Rhinehart. The show was presented on November 17 at 7:30 pm in Baruch performing Arts center – The Bernie West Theatre. When I walked into the theater, I was really surprised by their scenery. It was just way too simple. There was a black board on the upstage, a piece of white fabric or silk on the floor, and a few special rhombic lighting equipments hanging in the center of stage, that’s all. To be honest, I was a little disappointed, because I was expecting to see some settings that represent the time period of the play. Under the weak orange color that emitted by those special light bulbs, the whole scenery seems dreamy and would probably fade out in any minute . For me, the most impressive part of this play was that the entire company really worked as a unit to show the essence of the novel, because it was about Einstein’s three dreams which required each performers to act multiple characters. It’s definitely a tough job, but they overachieved what I was expecting. This is actually the first formal play I saw, which was very enjoyable. It got me into thinking the enigmatic time, and I have started getting interesting in theater. I can’t wait to see the next play!
