Mediating conflict and resolving disputes workshop

In this workshop, I learned how to deal with conflicts at Baruch from the professor, Engel Friedman. She provided some methods for us to effectively handle conflicts with peers or professors, and the whole students who attended this workshop actually participated in a series of role plays to solve the conflicts. For example, we had a role play in which a student argued with his professor because of his poor grade. He wondered why the professor gave him such a grade, seeking for help from the office of Ombuds. Later, an ombud got a hold of his situation. The ombud tried to help him by talking with the professor and saw what actually happened to the student and the professor. After figuring out their situation, the ombud attempted to give them a suggestion to mediate their conflict. Finally, the student or the professor would concede. And they would resolve the dispute among themselves. With this example, I understood the role of the ombud in this case. I would ask the office of the Ombuds for help if I encountered any conflicts in the future.
