suicide workshop

“worldwide there are more deaths due to suicide than to accidents, homicides, and war combines,” and I agree with it. The only thing that I leans from this workshop is that when you saw a major attitude change among one or other friends, then you should be notices and tell that person to go to see a adviser for help.

In addition, symptoms of depression include: sadness, loss of interest, poor appetite, trouble staying asleep or sleeping too much, feeling tired, feelings of worthlessness, trouble concentrating, moving or speaking very slowly, problem of being better off dead. So it is a serious problem for many people.

Career planning: Resume writing

First of all, I think that this workshop is very useful. With in this workshop, it teach about how can we write a good resume for job.  For example, to establish one’s professional with high levels and good writing skills, based on the fact that the resume is so well done, which include clear, well-organized, well-written, as well as well-designed. The one most important thing that I think it is very useful is that if, I say if your overall GPA is low, then just put your major GPA in your resume. On the other hand, if both of your GPA is low, then just forget about putting it.

conflict

Last week, I went to a work-shop. Its main idea is to solve the conflicts in the college. The speaker was very affirmative, and the topic was very interesting. We seperated into many groups. She gave us different assignments for different situations. We imagined that scene and acted like that. Finally, after the lengthy negotiation, we solved the problems. We learned a lot because we figured out there is always a solution for the conflict.

mediating confilct and resloving

I attended the workshop on Nov 12.09. It’s purpose is to discuss some conflicts in our Baruch. Before the discussion began, the room was very cowded. Many students sat on the floor, and I was one of them. However, I was very lucky because they didn’t allow others to come in since the room was full already. During the discussion, I heard some stories from some students. They said that sometimes we had conflicts with others, we may take different response. Some may get angry and have a really fight, for example, the elevator. Since we all take elevator, sometimes we may not feel comfortable with someone who made the whole group be waiting for him. Also, some other relatinships invovle the conflicts. The end of discussion, I learned some stragies to slove the conflicts. We can talk, we can  compromise, we can make an agreement. Even though, the situation is very difficulty, I still feel that this workshop somehow helps me personaily.

“Coloring up your future”

I attended this workshop called “Coloring up your future” and the guest speaker was Alfonzo Quiroz. I found this workshop to be inspiring when Mr. Quiroz talked about his experience of coming out as being gay while striving toward his career in politics.  One advice he had given us was to never give up when someone doubts your ability of doing something. This is a good advice because there’re always someone in our life who will come out and say something negative about us.  But we should always move on and prove that person to be wrong.
