This is the most helpful workshop i have attented so far. The big surprise was that there is an organization called STARR, that will help us to get intership opportunities, give us directions of where to look for interships. It told us the importance of intership, which is the best way to gain work experineces, as we known that most empolyers would hire someone who has working experinece, rather than some “Newbs”. It;s also the best way to undertand the social reality. They also hand out booklets that have related informations, which are also very useful.
Internship and Goal Setting
Basic Interview Workshop
I attended this workshop and found it quite helpful. It address the main points the interviewer looks in the interviewee. It address the points of attire and how its important to promote yourself in a matter that would represent the company. I could only stay for a portion of this workshop because I had an appointment with my doctor to finish my immunization for registration. I wish I could of stayed for longer and learn more aspects of the interview process, because in life we are always be interviewed from society.
Internship and Goal Setting
On Tuesday, November 10, I attended the workshop called “Internship and Goal Setting.” In my opinion, this workshop was one of the most helpful ones I have attended to. It provided us with information such as: benefits of an internship, choosing an internship target, where to look for an intership, college credit, workplace responsabilites and so much more. In the internship, a lot of information was provided about what the STARR Center at Baruch provides to students and future events nad workshops it would be helding.
Career Planning: Basic Interviewing
On October 29th, I attended the “Basic Interviewing Techniques Workshop.” This workshop lasted from 12:50 to 2:20 PM and took place in the Vertical building. In my opinion, this workshop was very interesting. It provided us with information that would be very useful once we are in an actual interview. Topics such as: professional attire, how to develop an introduction about ourselves, specific things to mention, and so on where told to us. Also, there was a point in the workshop where they made us interact with the person next to us in order to practice our interviwing skills. The things that were mentioned in the workshop and the information that was handed to us would deffinitely help me in my future.
Internship and Goal Setting
It was a very helpful workshop on career exploration as most of us only have few ideas about internships. I highly recommend it to everyone. First of all, we were more definitely told what internship is. From there, we got know that internship is a termporary job that helps us gain pre-opportunity for our career experience and skills. It includes paid and unpaid internships, leadership programs and credit internships. The workshop also taught us how significant internship is to us and how the Starr Career Deveolpment Center of Baruch is going to help us go through a series of internship and pert-time job application. Moreover, we were informed how we need to prepare ourselves before the application of internship, where we need our experience of joining clubs, teams, of jobs and volunteer. we also need to ask ourselves what my tasks are while having internship as my pre-career experience. The booklet we got from the workshop is also a helpful stuff that tells us more specific information about internship which includes steps to success timeline, writing resumes and interviewing.
The latest “Hi”
I must be the last one saying hi here. I am so sorry that I haven’t got my active account until today I went to Mr.Luke’s office to solve the problem. Right now I am supposed to introduce myself, right? Well, is there anyone does not know who Theresa is in our LC01? I would feel sad if there is(haha) ! I believe some of you have realized that my signal is my nice smiles. (haha) I am flattering myself, right? But I do love smiling and laughing. Because of that, people always think I am a optimistic person. I hope myself is like that too. But actually I am kind of negative when some bad things happened. My close friends know that I always sigh. (-_-)however, what I hate is the condition that I lack of sleep. I remember many of you ever asked me, “are you ok? You look so tired.” Yes, because I could only open my eyes half when I am tired. What is the clue here? Definitely I love sleeping. Moreove, I loving shopping, eating, watching TV, enjoying arts and fashion, interior design, and chatting. Welcome to make friends with me. (^^)
Basic Interviewing Techniques Workshop
On October 29th, I attended the “Basic Interviewing Techniques Workshop.” In my opinion, I think this workshop was one of the most informative and useful workshop I attended. The workshop lasted for two hours. During the two hours, we were taught all the basic steps in preparing for an interview. There are many little things that people neglect for their interview. For example, appropriate attire, things you should know about the company you’re interviewing for, questions prepared, and etc. This workshop has been very helpful and I know I will refer back to the information they provided for us when I will be preparing for an interview.
Mediating conflict and resolving disputes workshop~
I went to the mediating conflict and resolving disputes workshop on last Thursday. we learned what to do and how to deal with conflicts at Baruch. We all participated during the workshop. We were separated into groups and asigned different situations. All of us learned how to deal with conflicts well after this workshop. We knew the office of Ombuds were always there to help slove conflicts with anyone in Baruch, students, professors, staffs. If you feel your professor doesn’t treat you fairly and you are afraid to talk to him, you can tell the ombuds and they will help you deal with it without leting the professor knows your name and class. It was fun and helpful.
Basic Interview workshop
I attended the “Basic Interview Techique Workshop” last Thursday. I think it’s a good start for me as a freshman to learn about these skills that are needed to prepare for an interview because I can be prepared in advance. The workshop gave informtaion about the techniques that are acquired for an interview. I learned about how to research for the company, the proper way of dressing, the techniques used during an interview and how to write a thank you letter. These skills are essential in order to succeed in an interview and getting a job.
Mediating conflict and resolving disputes workshop
In this workshop, I learned how to deal with conflicts at Baruch from the professor, Engel Friedman. She provided some methods for us to effectively handle conflicts with peers or professors, and the whole students who attended this workshop actually participated in a series of role plays to solve the conflicts. For example, we had a role play in which a student argued with his professor because of his poor grade. He wondered why the professor gave him such a grade, seeking for help from the office of Ombuds. Later, an ombud got a hold of his situation. The ombud tried to help him by talking with the professor and saw what actually happened to the student and the professor. After figuring out their situation, the ombud attempted to give them a suggestion to mediate their conflict. Finally, the student or the professor would concede. And they would resolve the dispute among themselves. With this example, I understood the role of the ombud in this case. I would ask the office of the Ombuds for help if I encountered any conflicts in the future.
