“Basic Interviewing Techniques Workshop”

Today, Oct 29th, I went to the “Basic Interviewing Techniques Workshop” by Starr Career Development Center. During 2hours of presentation, I leanred steps to take before, during and after the interview. More specifically, I learned that I should do research on the corporation, review my resume, practice answering possible questions, and have questions to ask the employer before an interview day. Some sutff that I observed today was something that knew alreday. For example, appropriate attire, time management, and thank you note. But overall, this workship was helpful and i think even in the future, when i have real job interview, i will be reviewing the booklet they provided us today. =)

Student Services Fair

I’m sorry, I forgot to post this workshop review!
On oct 13th, I went to “Student Services Fair” from 12:30~2:30.
Everyone got a paper that needed to be stamped at least from 10 tables you visited. It was hard to go around the room filled with so many freshmen; but i managed to go around and got infromation from:
Writing center, SACC(Tutorial Services), STARR Career Development Center, Study Abroad/WCIB, Disabled Students’ Office, Health Center, TEAM Baruch, Student Life, Counseling Center, Degree Works Audit.
After this, we all put our stamped papaer inside the box fot the raffle. I stayed with my friends, but all the prizes [Baruch hoodie, Baruch t-shirt, Baruch cup] went to other people. Anyway, it was great workshop that helped me to get lot of information on many programs in our school AT ONCE. =)

Basic Interviewing Techniques

This midday I went to the Basic Interviewing Techniques Workshop in VC building room 1-107.  The workshop was about some required steps to take in order to increase chances of landing a job. I felt so impressive and excited to hear the presentation of Professor Helen. Her speech was so dramatic, strong and easy to understand at the time. On the hand, her body language vividly showed what should do or not to do during an interview. After this workshop, I realized that there were lots of things need to be prepared well before the interview. Those things were like researching the corporation, reviewing the resume, practicing answering potential interview questions and so on. The most important part of the interview was non-vocal communication which would take 68% for success. In addition, managing anxiety was also another important factor.  I was so happy to learn so much in this workshop. Next thursday there will be another simliar workshop.

freshmen reception

Sorry, it seem that I forget to put the post online. Anyways, the freshmen reception in center for academic was fun. Even thought we have to get our card punched by other people, but overall I learns many information about Baruch and about the class that I might takes next year.

I guess that I still might need help about to pick which class in spring term. Overall I think I might take history, … then I have no idea.

I think the reception this time is a bit long, and sometime I dont have any questions for people, also I still dont know where is the box that I needs to put my card in.

See ya.

sigma alpha delta: gay marriage debate

yesterday, i went to the gay marriage debate. the event was very exciting because it  was the popular topic recently. the sigma alpha delta club invited 6 typical people, such as college professor, philosopher, priest, etc. the debate was about between gay marriage and traditional marriage. the speakers were very fluent, convinced and confident. their arguments were really powerful, reasonable, logical and detailed. i learned a lot about public speaking, their gesture, verbal, humor, etc. also,  i understood more about gay people’s obstacles and the profound society. in my opinion, i think gay people have their freedom to get married, otherwise, the people who deny them should just leave them alone, cause there’s no consequence affects them.

Strategic reading

On October 21, I attended a Workshop which was about Strategic reading with the writing center. Maybe I came into that room too early because no student there except me. I knew that students wouldn’t be interested in this kind of workshop. So was I. although there were a few students in the room, the staff sill actively made a short introduction and began to lead us into the topic in detail. From this workshop, I knew that active reading was really an active way for me to get the important information from reading many pages every day. Of course there are many strategies to read effectively, but it depends on witch strategy is suit to me. At the end of the workshop, I took some practices. What an inconspicuous helpful workshop it was.
