I’m sure this has been a question we’ve all asked ourselves at least once in our lifetime. This was the question that kept on playing in my mind in choosing a college. My high school was full of artists, both visual and performance. Many of the students possessed a talent that had been cultivated and honed for numerous years. By the time college came around, few pursued their art, but many chose schools that were centered around careers with a “sense of security”. In essence, many abandoned their art, to pursue something that seemed more secure, a much easier goal; a realistic option.
My argument isn’t just restricted to dreams of becoming a visual or performing artist. What about those of us with those childhood dreams of playing major league sports, or being the firefighter to save a family from a burning building, or the police officer defending people from burglars and any wrongdoers, or the doctor to help people feel better? What about those other dreams we let go? Should these be dreams that we should turn into reality, or should we awaken from these dreams and come back to reality?
I totally agree with you guys. Get an education to have a back up in future. In my opinion once you are out of college you should definitely start doing and pursuing your dream, if you fail you have a back up- that college diploma of an accountant or whatever your major was.
i agree with mr popov it kind of sucks knowing that this is how our society works you can pursue your life dream but at the same time you know if your not making enough to support yourself, the reality is that you know to do something else to actually support yourself later on in the future.
You are definetely right about your arguement. Our society basically put forth that to be succesful you have to do something down to earth and the people that do not do this are usually not succesful, except for a few amount of people. I think that is nonsense and people should pursure their life dreams instead of doing what society wants them to do. Pursue what you believe in, not what you are supposed to do.
