I went to the career exploration workshop on 11/24/2009 and the name of the workshop was “Impression Management”. It located on the third floor of vertical campus. It was about one and half hour. According to the career workshop, one thing which I learned about is the communication skill. The professor taught us to develop our skills. He gave some minutes to us to know the people who were around us. He wanted us to practice how to make friends and how to remember all the friends’ names. Communication is an important skill for us and I should not be afraid of speaking to strangers. I learned something useful today and I think this workshop is good for new students to know more career skills.
These Past Few Weeks
Who knew registration could be such a nightmare, I mean we all expected to be dissappointed about not getting the classes we want and frustrated when the seats start decreasing in front of us (didn’t get my english class of choice!!) but being completely stopped from registering by a red sign saying “You need permission” was nothing short of horrible. As I was being stopped from registering I could feel the classes I wanted filling up. Apparently a block on name was stopping registration which the registras office cleared and thankfully I got the classes I wanted. I feel sorry for those who had made schedules weeks ago and found out today that all those seats were taken.
That was probably the highlight of my week. Important lesson learned; procasting about writng papers gets you nowhere. The only thing procastination leads to is dark circles under your eyes when you are trying to write a paper about ancient Athenian society four in the morning, few hours before it is due. Visited the MOMA for an art history paper, another paper that I should not have procrastinated about, really enjoyed some of exhibits which had on display paintings from the Pop Art movement of the 70’s. I really wish the Tim Burton exhibit was open then, I can’t wait to see that exhibit. Overall it has been a good middle of semster, had some frustations with registration and history papers but also had fun visiting the MOMA.
art history midterm 2
as we were reviewing the midterm in class, i was very upset with teh grade i recieved. after we went over it, the teacher realized that the grader made a few mistakes. we went through the whole test a few times. after reviewing the test, i realized that i was supposed to get six more points. i showed it to the teacher and he gladly gave me the six points. between the midterm garde and my first paper grade hopefully i will get an A in art history
registration day
the day was very confusing. from waiting for a computer to the final seconds till my registration time. being a freshman, i had a very late time. being made fun of by upper classmen i was aware of the fact that i was not going to get any of my first choices. when the time came to register i plugged in the codes, and teh uppper classmen were right. my first choice was taken along with my second one and third one. i had to redo my scheduale right there at the computer in the library. after a few more tries of plugging in code after code, i finally came to a scheduale that was suitable for my requests.
Registration
oh my!!! registration was so crazy! everyone was flippin out that all of the classes were getting filled up and some “geniuses” made up pretend schedules weeks before their registration date and realized by the time they registered the classes were all filled up. oy well i did mine the night before, so i got schedule thats 4 days until 12:30 but i don’t now if that like enough? i mean i could get a job, but if i don’t what can i possibly do for the other half of the day. And i took so many college now classes that i don’t even need that many classes.
My fourth workshop
I wen to an art workshop last Tuseday, 11/17/2009. The name of that workshop is Mercedes Matter: A Retrospective Exhibition. That workshop located on the 22nd street. When I arrived there, there were a lot of people. Each visit was only fifteen minutes. I saw many beautiful paintings in there and they all had their own styles. A professor told the differences and styles of each paintings. I listened to her carefully and I learned something new from that worshop. I enjoyed visiting the artworks and I thought that professor was helpful. I went there once before with my English class, but the artworks were different to the last time. However, I think that is good for updating the new artworks.
My third workshop
I went to the Database Survival on 10/15/2009. The location of the workshop was on the second floor of the library. That workshop taught us how to use our library website to do research. My library science professor talked about that before, but I think it was useful for everyone. It is very easy use the databases from our library website and all the databases are free for baruch stsudents. Although I knew about that before, I still paid attention to listen what did the professor to say. There were many people and someone didn’t have chairs to sit. Some of them stood and some of them just sat on the floor. I was lucky that I had a seat. That workshop just was about an half hour, but people could learn some important things from it.
The ending of the semester
I feel that the ending of the semester is approaching and I feel; happy and sad at the same time. I have had a great time at Baruch my first semester, I met some cool people. However, the work is overwhelming, but since the first day of college I have become used to the college life. The only obstacle that stands in my way is my long and boring commute.
MOMA!!!!
For our art history class, we were suppose to go to the Museum of Modern Art on thursday. However I had some other things to do, therefore I went on Monday. The museum wasn’t as bad as I thought. I thought it was actually even better than the one we went before because it had sliding doors. The whole museum felt really modernized. It was really great. In the shops there are even tokidoki, kidrobot, and muji items, which were fasinating. Who knew a museum would have these kind of awesome things.
Good teacher or good schedule?
So I have made my schedule for the next semester and I expected it to be much better. Unfortunately there is an ultimatum everone has to face good teachers or good schedule. It is much harder to make your own schedule than I thought, and some classes have ridiculosuly inconvenient times.
