MoMA

So this Thursday’s art history class took place at the MoMA. I was excited to go because the professor said that there would be artworks that looked cool and something that everyone would be interested in. I first went to the architecture section and I saw really cool furniture and weird inventions. I wanted to do my paper on one of them, but none of them had much to write about. I decided to look at paintings even though I found them boring, but they might have a lot to write about. I went to this section in the museum with artworks that had very little going on. I remember there were a couple of artworks that were just plain white and I didn’t understand why they were considered art. I mean, I could have just hung a blank canvas on a wall and call that art. However, there was this one painting that was completely black and I got really confused because there was absolutely nothing going on there. I read the description for it and turns out the artist used different types of black paint, and he painted the corners black with a subtle hint of red, and the middle with blue and green. It took me a while to finally see it, but when I did I was super amazed. I decided to do my paper on minimal artworks because even though there might not be anything there, the way people interpret it is very different, and that makes the painting interesting.

Art Gallery Workshop

The art workshop I went to was an exhibition entitled, “Mercedes Matter: A Retrospective”. It was basically a gallery filled with modern art paintings. The paintings were very colorful and eye-catching, but I didn’t understand them. The tour guide explained that there were hidden images within the painting that would be noticeable if analyzed carefully. There was one painting with vibrant colors drawn in random places and didn’t look like anything recognizable, but she explained that if I looked carefully, I would be able to see tables and fruits. It was an interesting approach to interpret it and I guess I learned to understand modern art better.

calculus

So, yeah. I don’t know about you guys but I’m pretty sure I did really bad on that calculus test. We organized a study group, but we didn’t get as much done as we could have because a lot of problems confused every single one of us. A few of us proposed regular study groups to review topics before we get lost studying the day before a test. How does that sound?

The workshop about carrer planning was ectremely helpful. I learnt how to behave myself at the job interview, what kind of clothes to wear and how to make sure you will get the job after your interview. There are more related workshops on this topic, I advise averyone to visit them

Calculus

So that test was a lot harder than what i thought it would be. I thought I was going to do good on this test, but it was just extremely hard.  The first part was pretty easy but when he gave us the second part I had no idea what to do. The numbers were so confusing and I just blanked out. It’s so frustrating because math use to be my best subject, that’s why I wanted to study business. Now I can barely pass a test. I’m just hoping i can ace the final and finish this semester with a somewhat decent grade.

my second workshop

I went to the Student Services Fair on 10/15/2009. The location of the workshop was at the room 1-107 in the Newman Vertical Campus. It started at 12:30PM and ended at 2:00PM. I went there with my two friends. When you entered the fair, you will get card which has all the department’s names. There were many different types of departments over there. I went to ten different departments and got ten holes on my card. I was happy that I went to that fair because I received a lot of information from each department. I think I can know more about my college and this is a useful workshop for me.

thinking about my next semester

My first semester is going fast and I have to begin to think about my next semester. Two weeks ago, we had a useful seminar class. A professor came to help us to know about how to register courses for the next semester. This class is helpful for us because we are freshman and we don’t know how to choose courses by ourselves. I knew about we have to get 28 credits to be a sophomore. College is very different to high school. We can decide all the things by ourselves and I think I have more freedom in college. I think I will choose my courses soon because we will begin to register courses on the middle of November. I hope I can get all the courses I want for the next semester.

registration day

i just recieved an email regarding my registration date and time. i am quite clueless on how this process works. i began to ask around in school about the process but the answers just got me more nervous. after first deciding which classes i want to take i have to decide on which professors are good then hope that the class still has seats open. hopefully as time goes by and i ask more and more people, more and more of my questions will be answered.

my midterms

I finished all my midterms right now and I got the grades already. I just had two midterms, one is the art history and another one is the library science. I was so happy when I got a good grade on my library class. If you do all the reading of the class, you will be easy to get a good grade. Many people who are in my library class all got the good grades. On my another midterm, it was the opposite of my library midterm.  My art midterm was so hard for me. I need to memorize many things and I think I was getting crazy about that. Although I passed that midterm, I got a bad grade. I am worrying about my final grade on my art class now. I have to study hard for my final to help my final grade.
