Tests & Essays

I thought that these two weeks were quite interesting. The math test was pretty easy and fun to do. To be truthful I expected it to be harder than it was. For me so far this math class is a review of my 12th grade math class, I was expecting to learn something new. History seems to get more and more entertaining with each lecture, and even though the paper was really long it was easy to do, since most of it was notes and the few passages from the book. After writing three essays this week I don’t really want to think about writing anymore, unfortunately we still have a few more essays to go before the end of the semester.

College

I feel that the last week has been really overwhelming. I had to write three papers and study for a calculus test. Not only do  I have to complete all these projects but I also work 25 hours a week. So work intefers with school and I am doing my best to keep up. Having a social life on top of all this stress is definantly needed. I just have to learn how to manage my time better.

Speech vs Calculus

Instead of taking Calculus I am taking Speech.  The class makes me feel out of place because it is full of sophomores and juniors.  After my first speech presentation today I dread the upcoming speech presentations because the time limit will increase.  Making a speech in front of the whole class is harder than it looks especially when some of the students look comfortable with doing it.  Sometimes I wish I was taking calculus like everyone else but after hearing and reading other students opinions I rather not go through calculus again.  I am glad I got the credits for it because double periods of AP Calculus everyday in high school was a nightmare.

College seems somewhat cool so far.  The freedom is great and the classes are more interesting than my classes in high school.  It takes me less time to commute to college than it took for high school.  I hope everyone else is enjoying or will enjoy college life as well.

This history paper…

After completing this history paper I feel like a zombie. I realized less than halfway through, this was the longest report I had ever written. And when I finally did finish, I felt absolutely relieved. However that lasted only a few minutes, because I remembered that I have two more essays to complete. The insane amount of essays at one time is definitely something that I’m not liking about college at all.

Following dreams or Chasing reality?

I’m sure this has been a question we’ve all asked ourselves at least once in our lifetime.  This was the question that kept on playing in my mind in choosing a college. My high school was full of artists, both visual and performance. Many of the students possessed a talent that had been cultivated and honed for numerous years. By the time college came around, few pursued their art, but many chose schools that were centered around careers with a “sense of security”. In essence, many abandoned their art, to pursue something that seemed more secure, a much easier goal; a realistic option.

My argument isn’t just restricted to dreams of becoming a visual or performing artist. What about those of us with those childhood dreams of playing major league sports, or being the firefighter to save a family from a burning building, or the police officer defending people from burglars and any wrongdoers, or the doctor to help people feel better? What about those other dreams we let go? Should these be dreams that we should turn into reality, or should we awaken from these dreams and come back to reality?

first blog

So far I dread going to school and commuting. I expected a bit more from Baruch, such as more activities for the freshman, instead of making us do freshman seminar and stuff like that. I’ve been here last summer to take a macro class and I’m already use to getting around at Baruch. However, it’s boring the hell out of me because the school really isn’t that big. I can’t say there isn’t much to do anound here because the club fair hasn’t even started yet, but I am so tired of going to the library and studying, walking around places I’ve already been to, and seeing the same people from my high school. I guess this college really isn’t for me, but who knows? Maybe I’ll actually end up liking this school.

Thoughts on college

So it’s been almost a month into freshman year of college, and it’s going alright. I’m not getting as much work as I expected, but I have to get used to the amount of readings and the faster pace of classes. I really hate the long commute to school, but I learned to make it productive by doing my readings and homework on the train. I’m still adjusting to college life, especially when I have to be independent and responsible about my school work. Also, since there’s no bells in college to remind me when class ends, starts or if I’m late, I have to keep track of time.

First Day

My first day of Baruch I was extremely nervous.  I had one or two friends that I knew but the school is huge.  How will I ever see them?  The first two weeks of college wasn’t too bad.  I learned that the transition from high school to college wasn’t all bad.  There wasn’t that much different in the workload I received, just more reading.  I am surprise though in the fact of taking trips.  That’s probably the best part.  So far we went to the Native American and watch a theatrical performance within the school.

College

College is more fun than I thought it would be. During the summer I was a bit anxious about what was going to happen. But so far all of the classes are reasonable and not too hard to manage. The fast pace of all the lectures was a bit overwhelming at first but now that I got used to it, it became enjoyable. This week, for the first time in 4 years I was able to swim in a pool and for that I am very happy. I didn’t realize how much I missed swimming after I left my swim team, until I started again. I just hope everything continues to go well, if so this will turn out to be a great 4 years.

adjusting to college life

In the past few weeks, It was extremely difficult for me to get up in the morning and make these extremely long commutes. Plus the extremely long calculus class is not the best thing you can have for your first class on a Monday.  Most of my classes seem easy going, even though we do have papers and stuff. Only time will tell, if I will feel comfortable adjusting to the college life. Plus having a VERY GOOD LOOKING/AWESOME/COOL/ETC. teacher for Freshmen Seminar, motivates you to study hard and get to school on time.
