Impression Management Workshop

On Nov. 5 I attended the Impression Management workshop. This workshop was about how to present yourself in the work environment and how it’s very important to be aware of your body language. The speaker said that when you first meet someone, you judge them by what they’re wearing. He said that is the reason why students looking for jobs dress up professionally when people from companies come to Baruch to meet and interview them. Not only do you have to think and dress professionally, but you have to act professionally. The speaker said that it’s important to speak clearly and loudly. He said that if your shy, you should start practicing talking in front of your friends and family because speaking publicly is something that you’re going to be doing in the future. The speaker also said that the people that are shy should get a mentor so that they can have someone to talk to or evaluate them on their speeches and their progress. I felt that overall these were things that I already knew about how to present myself. Also there were many bullets on the slide show that he was showing so it was kind of hard to read all the sentences and pay attention to what he was saying at the same time.
