Arts at Baruch Workshop

On Tuesday, I attended the gallery tour “Mercedes Matter.” This workshop is located in the building across the street from the vertical campus. Once inside, the speaker informed us about a famous artist Mercedes. She showed us various paintings that Mercedes drew, from her early childhood at 9, up until her death. She also educated us about the museum itself; she said it has been established in 2001 and etc. The tour itself was only 25 minutes.

Personal Enrichment workshop

On the 16th of November, I attended the “Values, Pressure and Choosing a major workshop.” I personally thought that it was an uninteresting workshop. Two professors came in with a power point presentation and handed out worksheets for the class to fill out based on our goals. The worksheets had boxes that we had to fill in pertaining to what others thought of us. For example, based upon my family, their expectation was for me to be an business or engineering  major. We did this for much of the entire workshop and some people even shared theirs.

Freshmen Reception workshop

The freshmen reception workshop was September 17, 2009. By the time I arrived, over two thousand other freshmen were already there. The line was outrageous and piled the entire fifth floor, even blocking the escalators. The representative showed up and said that they were only expecting about a hundred or so. She simply told us her intentions for the workshop and dismissed everyone. This was my first workshop so I my outlook on future workshops weren’t so positive.

Freshman Reception

Freshman Reception was in September but I forgot to blog about it before. This workshop was supposed to be about finding about our advisers and what we had to do in order to talk to them. During this workshop though, they didn’t realize that so many people would show up and so they couldn’t provide us with all the information they wanted us to know. All they did was apologize for the inconvenience and then they signed our agendas. But she said we could go to the Office of Advisement and pick up the folder of all the information they would have shared. And they didn’t have enough cookies for everyone, so I was a little upset about that too.

Internships and Goal Setting

Today I went to the Internships and Goal Setting workshop. I found this workshop to be very helpful. The information provided was very useful and i will definitely use it later on. They actually have a lot of internship opportunities for freshman and sophomores that i didn’t know they had. The speaker for this workshop was very good and she kept us interested throughout the whole session. We actually ran out of time so she had to shorten what she was going to do but i still found it helpful. I would definitely recommend people to go to this workshop because it’s helpful and because you have to go to one of these workshops if you want the Career Development Center to help you with internships.

Gallery Tour

Yesterday I went to the Gallery Tour. Honestly, it wasn’t all that. We saw a bunch of paintings by Mercedes, and her progression throughout her life. Some of the paintings caught my eye but not many. The line for the gallery took longer than us actually being in the gallery. I didn’t really learn much either, so i wouldn’t say was the best workshop.

Gallery Tour

I went to the tour at Sydney M. I got to see lots of photographs, one of my favorites was the one with the bodies but it looked like sand dunes when you first glanced at it. It was a bit dull but interesting for any people interested in art.

Arts at Baruch

I went to this workshop today with Meera but I don’t remember the name which means I am having a memory loss! Not a good thing considering I am so young lolz. This workshop was very boring. I don’t see the point in going to this workshop. It was a waste of time especially since we had to wait in line to go in and see and the paintings. Honestly, I didn’t see the point in this workshop. It was a waste of time which could have been used for another purpose.

Club Fair

I went to the club fair in September but I ended up writing about it now because I was under the mistake that I had already written about the club fair. It was very crowded and the way it was set up, no one club actually stuck out to me. I joined Club India and Sikh Association Club but that wasn’t because of the Club fair. Before the Club fair, these two clubs put up posters and I went with my friends to find out what the club was about. I don’t think having the club fair is a bad thing but it didn’t really help me. The posters that the clubs put up actually helped more.

Values, Pressures, and Choosing a Major

I went to the Values, Pressures and choosing a Major yesterday with Meera. In the span of one hour we did two exercises which were made to help us think about our careers. It was a interesting and well-informed workshop. However, I have already started thinking about this. I have started thinking about what  makes me happy and what I want to do with my life. I knew my goals and what I want to achieve. But this workshop was interesting and it did make me expand my thinking about how I am going to achieve my goals. It helped me become more determined about my goals.
