The Engs, Library Video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci0uA6OQAxQ&fmt=22  <—– This is our library!!! LC06

When I first saw the “Visit to the Newman Library” video, I thought it was packed with great, useful information.  I did feel that the 7 minute length might deter interest, especially from incoming freshman. We wanted to make a “student-friendly” video that would first attract students into the library, while simultaneously showing them where to get help and get started.  The library sponsored the contest to “encourage freshman to EXPLORE the library, and learn about its various services and resources.”  We felt that first attracting freshman attention by showing various resources (in a lightly humorous, yet professional manner) would encourage them to explore the library. We felt like filming one specific service might not appeal to everyone, but if we showed a myriad of attractions it would have to spark at least one interest to our viewers.

Young people are not known to have long attention spans. We wanted to have our audience members enticed from the very beginning to the very end.  When a freshman sees the title and knows it’s a parody of the popular MTV Cribs, they will be enthusiastic to watch the entire video.  We weren’t sure if the final library committee would be okay with the hip-hop music and playful attitude.  However, we felt that we kept the GOAL of the video in mind at all times.  In addition to this, we felt that there is definitely a TARGET AUDIENCE for this project.  We think we will capture their attention with our creative choices and they will learn a wide spectrum of library’s uses. Finally, the video quality is another strength of our entry. The use of a tripod, the detailed editing, and using the Canon EOS 7D to record in HD added to the quality of our production. Also, the text accompaniment reinforces the vocal statements. A more visual audience member can grasp the concepts with ease.
