Gallery Tour: Mercedes Matter

On November 3rd, I went to 135 East 22nd Street to fulfill my Arts at Baruch enrichment workshop. At this gallery, I viewed the paintings of Mercedes Matter who was a New York City artist in the mid to late 1900s. Her art work was mostly paintings. It was very well drawn as she illustrated her abstract style. Her paintings had a wide variety of colors, most of which made a strong statement of how she felt. From the gallery leader, I was told that this style was taught to her by Hans Hoffman, who was an abstract expressionist. Her drawings portrayed how she felt and I felt she did a very good job. I enjoyed my trip to this gallery, as it opened my eyes to a new type of art that had not been aware of before.
