Unicef: Community Service

Title of Workshop: Unicef?

Time and Date: November 17th, 2009/ 1: 15 – I forgot

Category: Community and Global Awareness

Because I wasn’t able to make it to Light the Night, we were given another option for community service.  A couple weeks before, a group of us met up with the other LC to discuss the mission and assign jobs. We decided to do a bake sale and use the money to help kids in Africa get clean drinking water.  Diana and I teamed up to try and raise donations at the bake sale.  When we got there, we got a coffee can and big cupcake sign.  We tried going to the busier area and even going up and asking some people.  We raised a couple dollars and ended up donating some ourselves.

Doing this workshop took me out of my comfort zone the most.  It was really awkward holding a big cupcake sign while yelling “donations” and “bake sale”.  I’m glad i got to work with Diana.  We tried to make it fun.  This was a really humbling experience and would recommend it.  It’s important to see how hard it is to raise money.  I think I’ll try and donate more.
