I am proud that you guys went to an enrichment workshop together as a group. It probably involved planning as such. Next time you do go to a workshop together can someone just take attendance so that I know, if they don’t sign for you, who went and who didn’t. Those people who signed the attendance sheet still need to write on the blog.
When it comes blogging about the enrichment workshops, I want you to write about:

Title of workshop attended
Category of Workshop
Date/time of workshop
Brief description of workshop, and workshop goals as you understand them
Explain why you selected this particular workshop and how it took you outside your comfort zone.  If it did not take you outside your comfort zone, explain why not.
How did this workshop meet or fail to meet your expectations? Would you recommend it to another student-why or why not?
What do you feel you learned from the workshop/experience? What surprised you about that? What was new that you could take away from this experience?- Guide to Blogging for Freshman. For more information on blog etiquette which is the sheet you recieved yesterday, go to https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/fro/guide-to-blogging-for-freshmen/

Please use the categories from now on, located on the right side under publish and post tags.

Arts at Baruch

After spending over $12 dollars on an unsatisfying lunch, myself and everyone went to the Art at Baruch exhibit on the side building of the Field Building. It was actually not that bad considering the art. The coolest one was probably the ariel view shots of stonehedge and the white houses of Greece. You usually don’t get to see a view like that. While the other ones were pretty interesting, they all seemed similar. It would have been a nicer exhibit if there was some ridiculously scary hidden message in some of the art.

First Enrichment Workshop

When I was invited to the first Orientation meeting to fufill the enrichment workshop, the email said the following:

Enjoy refreshments and listen to music while meeting your Academic Advisors and other freshmen.  This is a great opportunity to have your academic questions answered such as:

What Majors/Minors are offered at Baruch College?
What courses can I register for in the spring 2010 semester?
Can I drop a course during the fall semester?

However, when we got there there were tons of kids and it was greatly overpacked. They later told us that they expected 2000 kids to show up, and about 1300 did. They hardly reviewed the topics posed, most of the time was spent signing our sheets, and worst of all, THERE WERE NO COOKIES!!! I hope future workshops are more beneficial to me.

Ron’s first week of college

So college isn’t exactly what I first thought it was going to be. I imagined it to be a huge school, fast moving, and terrifying. What i realized was that it is a huge school, and its very fast moving, but its not that big of a deal. I met some cool people who im glad I actually met. The food isn’t that bad, except theres a big chance I might put that freshman fifteen on.

What i discovered.

I thought that when i first entered college that my mind had already switched to college mode. That i would study, do all my work like a college student. Fast and efficiently. But to my surprise, i am still that high school student deep inside. I still study at the last minute (Music) and i do my essays on the last min too (Writing I). I still procrastinate when i’m at home and i still talk to my friends like as if i have no school work to do.

This will all have to change…NOW. As of now i am 100% confidant that i will do badly on the music quiz and my essay that i gave Professor Smith to read will probably be the worst she’s ever read. Even though i still talk to my friends a little bit every once and a while, they still complain that i don’t keep in touch with them any more and you know what, i don’t care. They got college too so they should know what i’m going through and for my high school friends, they will understand once their in my shoes. I will also have to (unfortunately) push love aside, as it is starting to add more stress into my life which i DO NOT need. I don’t know how college girls are but if it’s the same like all the other girls i’ve met, then i don’t want em.

wow ok so back on topic, this week was pretty sweet like all the other weeks. I finally understand a topic in math YAY!!! but the hw’s are killing me. English so far seems easy enough and my professors in math and ecology have warned me of upcoming exams in Oct 1st so i will prepare for them accordingly. So yea, story of my life.

I managed to survive.

So it’s been about three weeks, and they have passed by so quickly! Last week had been as hectic as the first with the amount of work that’s been pouring, but I’m beginning to learn how to manage my time slots to accommodate the load. Outside work, however, I am finding it hard to retrieve my social life. It’s very difficult to find that balance between academic and personal time for my family and friends. My friends are also finding it hard to find time outside college work, and that just adds to the difficulty. It’s easier to find time with my family, because well, they live with me. But they usually find me in my room, in front of the laptop, with a giant mug of coffee at hand, typing or writing hysterically. I’m sure I will find that balance somehow along the next four years in Baruch, but if someone already has the formula for it, please feel free to share.

Note to Analucia: I’m sorry, but I will NOT make it to Bike MS. But Lincoln Tunnel sounds good.

Basheer’s post

I WILL be going to the Bike MS event.

Life is good but the stress is slowly kicking in. By next week I’ll probably be stressed out to the max if i don’t pass my first music test. So far math has been very hard (either cause it is hard or ok but too complex) and i haven’t been doing great in those mini quizzes Professor South gives us at the beginning of class so I’m a little concerned about  how I’ll do in that class.

I’ll definitely be losing B. Although i live the closest to school compared to everyone, i still never find the time to sleep. Happened to me in high school and even middle school so its no surprise that I’ll also be losing sleep in college as well.

I like that bumper sticker a lot. I hope to part “A” (getting good grades) but we will see what happens. So far all of our teachers seem ok, but they can all turn and be a completely hard grader in the end.   For part “B” I don’t think I will lose much sleep. I’m used to traveling 2 hours to the Bronx everyday for school and Baruch’s 1.5 hour commute is actually shorter. I get to wake up later everyday. AS for “C” the people are nice in our class. However, with a job I will probably lose social time.

Its crazy how early we have to wake up for the bike thing but I am probably going. I know me Mike D and Ambrose all live in Flushing and Bayside we will probably have to wake up at 4 to get there on time. I don’t even know if busses run at that time near my house. I do look forward to giving back though. I volunteered a lot this summer and it felt good.

Thanks for the birthday wish. When do we get our Baruch planners?
