Today Brian, Dave, and I went to the school blood drive. We all made sure to eat before because it was highly recomended to do so. I felt relatively fine, i wasn’t nervous or anxious. We got there a little early and filled out our form that was required. Then we played musical chairs for a bit having to slide to the next seat every two seconds. I was finally next and was taken into a makeshift cubical to have my finger pricked and my blood pressure taken. The nurse asked me a few simple questions and sent me to the next line to wait to give blood. I personnally hate needles. They make me cringe. I really wasn’t looking forward to getting stuck with one but i knew that would be the worst part. So finally i was called in to a chair and prepped for the procedure. After the needle was inserted into my arm, I became very anxious which i expected. I had to be laid down for the rest of the time. No big deal, i thought to myself this has happened before to me so i wasn’t worried. The time came and I was done donating. The needle was removed but i continued to lay because i was a little dizzy. After about a minute I decided Id get some food and water and i would feel fine. I got up and started walking towards the table where the snacks were. I had a rush of dizziness which i dissmissed as nothing to worry about. But it wasn’t a dizzy spell, it just got worse. I quickly sat down hoping it would go away. It didn’t and it dawned on me what was going on. I was losing it bit by bit, and all i could think of was don’t throw up, not in front of everyone. I put my head down, I was on the verge of fainting. Well, i passed that point and was awoken a few moments later by the doctor helping me into a wheelchair. He rolled me over to a bed (i think he did, i had my eyes closed i was still really out of it) and helped me in it, gave me ice packs on my neck and forhead. I realized i was drenched in sweat. I had no i dea what had happened in that few seconds of unconciousness. I layed there for about an hour, i was exhausted, and starving!! I ate watever i could find wen i eventually did get up. When i finally felt up to it i left. Overall, everyone was really nice and took good care of me and made sure i was comfortable and O.K. It was a learning experience, and i learned a valuable lesson, I will never donate again but am a big supporter of those who do.
