Let’s face it. The process of picking the picking classes is a daunting task. From choosing the right teacher to picking a decent time and on top of it all getting the correct class, it’s all somewhat scary. There are so many options that we didn’t have prior to this registration. Luckily, an advisor from the Center of Academic Advisement attended the freshman seminar in order to address all the concerns about registration and more. The advisor spoke of how the freshman are the last to register for class, therefore we should have a bunch of choices for next term in case the class we want is unavailable. He also went over what was said in L.U.C.Y, which mainly spoke about Tier I, Tier II and Tier III classes. Tier I and Tier II are mostly made up of basic courses which are required for everyone to take since some classes are prerequisites for other classes we may wish to take. Tier III courses are the courses that one takes as a minor. There are three schools which one can graduate from in Baruch and each one has its own requirements. For example, Zicklin School of Business requires a 2.25 in order to get in, while the other two schools only require a 2.0. Also, The advisor also went over what Simnet was and how it was required to take in order to graduate from Baruch. In the end, a peer advisor showed everyone how to look at possible classes to take for Spring 2010 and made sure that we all knew how to get onto eSims. This was extremely helpful because prior to this session, I was completely unaware how to register for classes. In general, I found this advisement session repeating almost everything that L.U.C.Y. had covered online. The one good thing about having an adviser present was thathe answered questions that we had and looked at the classes we were considering.
