Today I attended the Career Development Workshop. In this workshop a woman from the Starr Development Career Center talked to us. She presented a slideshow about certain careers we may think of looking into. She explained some of the majors we could take and things to that effect. The workshop was basically about getting us acquainted with certain areas of study and how we shouldn’t limit ourselves concerning careers. She dicussed things like how a major can still take us into different areas in the workforce. I liked the workshop because I feel like I learned alot concerning what I want to do with my major. It was good to hear that a major that I decide to take will not box me in. I can do other things with that major and maybe even change it down the line. Changing a major does not mean changing a career. There were alot of informative handouts given as well as useful sites. I do plan on visiting these sites because from what the spokeswoman said they can be helpful resources concerning what majors I want to take and careers I’d like to pursue. I also learned more about the The Starr Development Center which I’ve never visited. I do however plan to go at some point because it really does help you find careers and internships which will only work to my advantage. I enjoyed this workshop because of the information I retained. It concerned an issue that is very important to me and I find most detrimental to my success in college and the workforce.
