Last Thursday I attended a seminar for LGBT awareness. The seminar was about how to deal with being openly gay in the work space. It was very interesting because the guest speaker Alfonso Quiroz, was a very accomplished individual. He held many jobs in the sphere of political sciences. He campaigned for Al Gore, interned in the white house, and now works for Con Edison. Personally, he was a very inspiring individual not only for overcoming adversity but also because he has done so much at such a young age. The odd thing I found about the seminar though was that we were supposed to be talking about being openly gay in the workplace, yet he rarely talked about his own experience.
