Impression Management

I attended the Impression Management workshop, and it was under the Career Exploration category. It was on thursday, October 15, at 1230. The workshop helped me understand what impression to bring into the classroom and what impression to bring into an interview. It helped me understand that there are times for fun, and times for seriousness. Also,I was taught that it is good to bring a good impression, and it helps that you wear something appropriate to the interviews and it is good to interact with authorities around the building. I selected this particular workshop because I felt it was necessary to learn about impressing people that want to hire someone, and that it is beneficial. I would recommend it to another freshman because it tells you a lot about being mature and serious about college.

Bearcat: The other google

I attended the academic workshop on tues 10/20/09 at 130 pm. This was a helpful workshop but it was kind of boring because we went over the same information in the class before. I felt that although it was repeated information, it was good because it helped for review. This information will be really helpful for my future papers and future classes. I can use this information even outside of class. I would reccommend this workshop also.

The workshop was interesting because the speaker was good at keeeping the crowd into it and I felt that she was able to interact with us more than others. I would definetly reccomend this workshop for future freshman.

Career Planning workshop

I attended the Career Planning Impression Managment workshop which is part of the Career Exploration enrichment area. This workshop was held on October 13 in room 3-215 from 12:50 to 2:50. This goal of this workshop was to introduce us to the Starr Career Development Center, and show us students how helpful it could be. Aside from this We were taught how to make good first impressions on our teachers, fellow students, as well as possible bosses. We learned how to give and recieve good feedback, and the changes we should begin making to our lives to better our chances at future careers. I would recommend this workshop to another student because it was very informative and interesting to listen to.

Math and Me

Honestly, this math class has been a challenge. I guess I’m still use to high school where everything is spoon fed to you, but the class as the whole is difficult. The material doesn’t seem very difficult, simply in an hour forty minutes we have covered at an enormous amount of material and will be tested on it the the next class or the class after that. This class calls for a lot of self-control on the students part because it is our responsibility if we don’t understand something to ask questions or study it ourselves. This class isn’t impossible, just a greater challenge then the rest.

Club Fair Workshop

This workshop took place during our club hours in order for Baruch Students to learn more about the clubs and activities Baruch had to offer. It allowed me personally to experience another side of the Baruch “culture” and understand what being apart of that culture meant. There was plenty of people for socializing and learning about the different clubs. The club fair was an enjoyable workshop that was also educational and informative to me. By taking advantage of this workshop I have become interested in joining clubs here at Baruch.

Library Basics Workshop

I attended the Library Basic workshop at 12:45. It was a very instructional workshop in that it taught how to use the library and the resources it provides. For example, students are allowed to rent laptops and calculators for a certain period of time. You are also allowed to check out textbooks for any given class, also for a certain period of time. We were taught how to use the search engine on the library’s website and search for books throughout the entire CUNY system. I see the library as one of Baruch’s greatest resources and I plan on taking full advantage of what it and what it has to offer. I believe this workshop would be very instrumental to other freshmen because they may be unaware of what the library’s potential and this workshop allows us as students to see and understand that potential.

Math and Me

Math class is not that bad, but with changes it can be a lot better.  Precalc isn’t supposed to be hard, but I feel that some of his teaching methods for certain topics makes it a lot harder for us to understand the material. I do not think that he is a bad professor, however if he slows down, we would be able to understand the material a lot better. I feels like he is always in a rush to get the lesson done. I think he should care more about us understanding the material rather than trying to finish the lesson on time. I think a slower pace with materials covered  in class will really help make the topics more understandable.
