I attended the workshop and found it really good. There was a lot of information that the speaker gave us. She gave us a lot of tools like the internship manual, which i think would be really helpful to us even out of baruch. it had a lot of interesting information about resumes, cover letters, and searching for internships and jobs. However the workshop was very long. Soon it was apparent that she lost a lot of students attention. Even though it was long i appreciated all i learned from it.
Internship and goal setting
I attended the Internship and Goal Career Exploartion workshop on October 22nd and it was a worthwile experience. We recieved a lot of information regarding a variety of employment oppurtunities which are available to us. I was glad I went because I did not know much about internships prior to the workshop. The Internship Manual we recieved is great guide which I can always refer to in the future. Although the workshop was informative, it was unnecessarily long. Two hours were not required to get such basic guidlines across. After a point, students began losing interest, as the presentation became rather repitive.
Internship and Goal Setting
I attended the internship and goal setting workshop, which i found informative. The workshop organize provided me with concise and helpful information on how to effectively find and intership. However, the workshop was rather long and a tad dry, lacking any excitement or social interaction. The internship information she handed out to us will be useful in the long run. Overall, it was an informative but dull workshop
Internship and Goal setting
this workshop was very informative. The internship coordinator explained the different kinds of internships, the steps to get one, and what to do after you have one. Also she gave us information about who recruits Baruch students. I do agree with Sandra the workshop was very long and for next time i would recommend that they make it shorter. However, she did go over important information that every student should know becuase internships are one step to success. Also i learned about the services that STARR offers like Mock interviews, revising resumes, and internship search. also we got to keep a booklet with useful information about internships.
The Changing Nature of Ethnicity and Power
this forum was very interesting. There was a panel composed of Professors from the Balck and Hispanic Studies Dept. Some of the panelist were Professor Bernard, Professor Fernandez, Professor Henken, Professor Treitler, Professor Hansing. They talked about how race and politics and how they have changed over time. They used the examples of Barack Obama and Sonia Sotomayor. They used live experiences, geographic information, census, book excerpts, and other distinguished people’s quotes to explain their points and opinions. The forum was very informative and after this forum i have considered doing a minor in Latino studies.
Internship & Goal Setting
This workshop was pretty interesting because the Internship Coordinator explained everything really well. However, the presentation was way too long and some of the things said were pretty obvious like the way we should dress, etc (formal attire). She did give us this booklet that could be helpful to us in the future. It shows us exactly how to write our resumes, how to pick an internship, what questions we should ask, what to do when if we get the internship, etc. But all in all it was good to know we have someone who is genuinely interested in helping us get an internship we want…or at least try.
Film series “My Beautiful Launderette”
Well, the movie wasn’t working or so the woman said. But she said our books anyway because we actually showed up. So the workshop was by far the easiest one; it was great! Ok I actually looked up the movie and it really didn’t look that bad. It talked about Middle Easterns in an anti-immigrant London. This kind of plot really interests me so I was kind of dissapointed not to see it.
SACC: Everything You Need to Know to Pass Math
This workshop was pretty interesting. What the woman said was useful. Furthermore it didn’t apply to just a few students but to all of us students at Baruch, therefore it wasn’t (or shouldn’t be) a waste to any of ours time. However it wasn’t anything new; meaning I had known all of this before. But she was helpful in the way that a message she was trying to convey was that math doesn’t have to be all that complicated. With a few helpful ways to remember how to solve certain problems, we can all pass math.
student services fair
The student services fair was a great help for me for many reasons. One I was able to learn about the status of my immunization paperwork. I also learned how to properly transfer credits into Baruch. This fair also helped me learn about what Baruch can do for me. The people were all very informative and helpful. It was very crowded in the beginning but it did trickle down.
The highlight of it all was that I learned from the financial office that after I receive 24 credits from Baruch and have a certain GPA they will start searching for scholarships for me. All I have to do is maintain that GPA and fill out a application
The Nature of Landscape
On October 13th from 1-2 PM me and my friend attened this workshop in the 22nd ST building. There was a long wait to get inside but it was well worth it. Once inside we were able to see a small art collection which included work from Andy Worhol. This exhibition demonstrated different ways of looking at pictures, explianed why an artist might do a certain thing to a picture. And helped me to think like an artist. There was this one picture taht stood out. It was of butts. I know it sounds silly but it was art, the butts were the landscape, comparible to a mountain. I was amazed…. until they said that two of the butts were men’s.
