“The Nature of Landscape/ The Nature of Photography” 10/14

I enjoyed the workshop “The Nature of Landscape”. The worshop was in the Baruch Art Gallery. We were taken on a tour of the exhibits, where the leader described the different aspects of the photographs. The main theme of the exhibit was natural landscapes. Each photographer chose a certain landscape and altered it in a way to make it unique. For example, “Frozen Field”, by Robert Scheafer Jr, was a picture of a farm pasture that was frozen over. He used cyanotype, which stains the image with blue tones. Another photograph was “Hempstead Heath”, by Eric Lennard. In this photo Lennard depicts an open field with 3 symmetric trees in the center. The picture was darkened to make everything seem to blend together. Im not really into photography, however I found the workshop to be very interesting. I liked the fact that one of the photographers, Robert Schaefer, was actually there to talk about his pieces. What I learned for this worshop was the complexity of photography and techniques used by photographers to distort images. This exhibit got me interested in photography.
