Arts at Baruch: Mercedes Matter 12/1/09

On December 1st I attended an arts at Baruch workshop. This workshop displayed the works of impressionist painter Mercedes Matter. We went into three rooms, the first room was Matter’s early work, the second her mature work, and the third her later work. As we went into each room we sat down and the speaker gave a biography of Matter’s life as she went through the paintings. She went over not all, but a few of the paintings, explaining the shapes and different strokes of each. I do not enjoy viewing Impressionist paintings as much as I do others, but I did find many of her paintings beautiful. My favorite painting by her was Still Life with Skulls. Going into this workshop I expected to see interesting and stunning works of art and my expectations were defiantly met. I do recommend this workshop to other students because after attending this workshop I realized how much I enjoy learning about art. This surprised me and I am very glad I got a chance to experience and attend this workshop.
