This workshop was taken place on Thursday, October 15th in the Library building. Randy, the speaker, was introducing Baruch’s database and emphasizing its importance not only for our experience in Baruch College but also for the future. He showed us the different databases in Baruch and the way they operate. For example: the importance of diction (vocabulary usage) and the types of “filters” also known as advanced search not only in Baruch’s database but also in other searching websites such as google or yahoo. I learned that Baruch’s database is more effevtive than google because it was more options and filters. Instead of just searching for keywords, it also filters the type of information one is looking for (e.g. an article on the newspaper or a primary resource.) Randy also talked about the importance of colored words, usually blue. I never really noticed why sometimes when you search something, some words appear in blue and sometimes even underlined.. until Randy brought it up to my attention. This workshop was definitely the most interesting I have had so far.
