The workshop was not bad, but it was terribly organized. There was not a lot of space but a lot of people wanted to attend. Since it said to pre-register on the calendar, I did, but when I got there (a little late, since math teacher likes to keep us late), they said the workshop was already full, even though there were many people inside that didn’t register for it, and there was no room for many people that had pre-registered. The instructor of the workshop though did let students sit on the floor, so I was still able to get in, but many others weren’t because it became a fire hazard. In the workshop we basically talked about conflicts students experience at Baruch, and one of them was the bad organization of the workshops. This was the last workshop for personal enrichment, and the last academic enrichment workshop was already a long time ago, despite many people not having been able to attend one. In the end, we chose someone from the room to go speak to whoever is responsible for the workshops to solve the unfair problem. I don’t think I really learned anything from it, but it wasn’t a boring workshop either….I stayed awake the whole time!
Ballroom Dance Club
The ballroom dance club is one of the clubs i found out about at the club fair. I’m going to talk about it as Arts In Baruch. I was always interested in dancing, but never quiet had the time to actually go to a studio and learn it professionally. This is why the first chance i got at Baruch I Joined the club. Basically what we do there is learn to dance and its beauty. Dance is really a form of art that you actually need to learn to be able to express. So far we have learned rumba, salsa, and cha-cha-cha, although I know that there are more to come. Also, we were told that who ever wants would be able to perform later on when we get everything down. We meet every Thursday and “dance like no one is watching,” that’s also the club’s slogan. It’s truly fun, inspiring and energizing. It’s a beautiful form of ART.=D
Club Fair
Hey everyone! I went to the club fair a while ago. I still remember how it went though. As I walked in I tried finding Jenny, but couldn’t find her. How i later found out she wasn’t there in the first place. I walked around and got interested in quiet a few clubs…Although I only joined one.Which I will talk about later. The club fair was quiet hectic if I shall say . It was hard to pass around anywhere and was very hard to get the signature. Personally though I think the club fairs are incredibly important and should be held somewhat more often, because they really allow you to get more out of Baruch and lets you join and get involved in things that you’re interested in.I had fun and got a lot out of it.=)
Impression Management
This Career Exploration workshop was called Impression Management and was taken place on Thursday, November 5th in the VC room 3-165 at 1pm. It was mainly about advices for Baruch students in order to manage their college experience properly. We started with first impressions not only in the real world but also in school; including being on-time to classes and dressing formally in order to give a good impression to professors and staff. Then we continued with time management which involved the proper way of managing academic and social time as a full-time student. We also talked about the resources provided on the Baruch website and campus for students who want to obtain internships on and off campus. Overall I thought it helped me to understand better why I decided to attend to Baruch; a business school.
Breast Cancer Walk
Breast Cancer walk 2009 was taken place on Sunday, October 18th in Central Park. This year I decided not to walk for this cause but to volunteer. My group of friends and I were assigned as route marshals and guide walkers the right direction. Although our only purpose was to make sure walkers would stay on the sidewalk, we also cheerleaded for them encouraging them to keep walking in a rainy cold early morning. Even though it was really cold and raining all day long, we had a lot of fun because we got to share a good cause together. I was heart-touched when I saw all groups of people walking for this cause even in such bad weather conditions; a great variety of elderly citizens and young walkers. But what really encouraged me to continue cheering, although I was losing my voice, was the amount of survivors walking. They really gave me the motivation and energy to keep supporting the American Cancer Association every year.
Hi, I’m Liz. I graduated from Madison HS. I’m from Ukraine, now reside in Brooklyn and I love it here! So far my college experience has been not too different from high school (except the online hw and more freedom) because I’m just taking core classes, so I’m looking foreward to next semester to take more interesting classes.
First Workshop
Sadly, this workshop that lasted no less that 30 seconds, is the one that I forgot the name of. Although, it wasn’t really a workshop just walk-in and get your signature and packet. It was more like reading to yourself than a presented workshop. I was kinda disappointed since I actually wanted to learn something or get some interesting information from the staff not a piece of paper that I can read myself anyday, but that was not the case. I walked in and asked about the workshop and the guy just tells me to give my seminar books and just signs it. He told me that’s. Puzzled, I just walked away. 🙁
Club Fair
The second workshop I went to was the Club Fair in the Baruch Gym. The beginning of the Club Fair was a disaster. There were like hundreds of people lined up waiting to get it. Only two workers were doing the card swiping thing. Could have been sped up if they had more people or no check-in at all. Something like that. As I entered the vast gym, I saw that it was packed with various clubs. From Indian/Hindu Clubs to some of the most random clubs I ever saw. The amount of people was a lot too. There were many points of interest at the club fair, yet I still didn’t join any. All of them had their ways of advertising and promoting their clubs. Some gave out candy, some gave out cupcakes, and others gave out….pencils? Overall the Club Fair is a great way to blend into the Baruch Culture and social network.
Club Fair
There was so much people that it took me so long to get through. There were a lot of clubs in baruch but the only clubs I actually went to was the handball maniacs I played a game of chess at the chess club table, chatted with a couple of my friends from teh archery club and passed out fliers to chinese people to promote for the chinese christian fellowship. What added to the hype I guess was watching the NU ALPHA PHI dancing to the music or in other words “The Stroll”.
The Nature of Photography- Gallery Tour
10/13/09 Seriously I didn’t really understand much about what they wer e doing because we had a lot of people in our tour, so i just drifted off into photos that actually interested me like the photos that was taken in nature. I didn’t really understand much of what they said what the lighting was and everything else. The only picture the interested me the most I guess was the picture of a the Bamboo Grove.
