Personal Enrichment Workshop

I went to this workshop last week about “Building and Managing Relationships in College”. We were told to meet new people to get connections. I meet a few new people sitting around me. She also talked about the relationships we have  with our parents and boyfriends/girlfriends. So the most important thing was to have connections with our upper class men, but the problem is that I am a shy person.

Building and Maintaining Relationships in College

I attended this workshop on 10/8/09 and it was really long and boring.  Since this seminar was about networking, we were forced to meet new people.  The person leading the seminar made each section go to other sections and meet new people and then she called on random people to talk about who they met.  Even though we were supposed to, we didn’t.  We just sat there talking about where we were going to eat.  The seminar went by pretty quickly since all we were talking about was where we were going to eat lunch for the whole hour and a half.  I didn’t really learn anything new, just to keep in mind how important networking is though.  Although I am kind of shy, I feel like I will open up as the years go on.

Club Fair

It’s been a while, but I went to the club fair on Sept. 25. It was really crowded! I thought they should have like split the fair up into separate hours so that the different classes(freshman, etc.) would have been able to more comfortably look at the clubs. Also, I thought it was a little unorganized. When the DJ came on and people were about to have like a dance off, the music wasn’t even working and everyone looked all lost.

However, I think the clubs at Baruch are pretty interesting. I just signed up for VITA. Also I signed up for the Billards&Bowling Club. You get to play at SoHo Billards for free! Yippie! 🙂 I also wanted to join Golden Key, but they have the whole policy about being a junior with 20 credits or something. I think I’m going to do the volunteer events that they hold though.

Anyways, the club fair was okay! Needs to be more organized.

The Nature of Photography

Now for the 6th and final instalment of my 6 part blog, The Nature of Photography.  I attended this seminar on 10/13/09 in the Mishkin building.  I learned quite a bit.  For starters that we have a building called Mishkin and it’s location, also what it is used for.  In this small art gallery we walked around seeing photography.  I didn’t concider there would be much pictures to see because of the size of the room, but there were plenty.  As we walked around an Aid told us about the pictures and their photographers and how she/he wants theperson looking at the picture to say ” Ah ! this is so and so’s picture “.   And how each Photographer wants there identity silently instilled in each of their pictures.  There weren’t much photographs to stood out except one about the butts and how they look like sand doons( most noted , because of the constant giggling).  Overall I liked the Gallery but Baruch should consider getting better pictures, or maybe for a low low payment I could take some better ones !

Club Fair

This workshop was taken place on Thursday, September 25th. As the title says, it was a club fair, where most of Baruch’s clubs and organizations set a table to advertise and promote their clubs. Because I am planning to major in accounting, my main priority was to find clubs related to my major. That day, I joined two clubs: VITA and ASCEND. They’re both essentially for accounting and finance students, however they also welcome students of other majors. VITA mainly consists of trainning sessions in order to learn how to do taxes for families with economic disadvantages. I’m definitely looking forward for these trainning sessions starting on late December/early January. On the other hand, ASCEND also known as NAASA, is an accounting association around the United States that provide college students with internships associated with their majors.

Building and Maintaining Relationships in College

I attended this seminar on 10/8/09.   This Seminar was okay. it was about exactly what the name of it says.  She talked about building relationships in college, but not just about Romantic ones also about family relations, friendships and Networking relationships.  Since it was about making friends and building “networking” relations she made everyone become involved in  the discussion by making everyone stand up and talk to other people in different sections of the lecture hall.  The seminar went pretty smoothly of coarse there were a few interruptionsfrom some immature people but that didn’t take way from the learning.  Nothing that was said was relatively new, like always a heavy emphasis is place on how important college (not in a school way but in “constucting your personality”) is in your life (even more pressure).

Fresh Start

This meeting was really quick and straightforward. I was surprised by all the people that showed up. I was glad they discussed the packet of information we should look at in the future to familiarize ourselves with what we need to get into the Zicklin School.

Club Fair

So everyone knows that the Club Fair was held in the gym.  I really enjoyed seeing all the different clubs that Baruch offers.  The clubs I have signed up for is Handball and VITA.  For VITA I hope to learn a lot so I can use the knowledge in my own life in the future.  Although a lot of the clubs had really nice setups, I feel like they could have been more aggressive in recruiting new members.  I noticed that a lot of the people just stood and talked amongst their friends.

Club Fair

On 9/24/09 I attended the Club Fair.  It was held in the gym.  I found out about a lot of different groups that i didn’t even know were here at Baruch like Taekwondo, Ecuadorian, Hispanic accounting club etc.  The Gym was pack with all the people and after a while it got stuffy.  As of showing off the groups that they were in, the member could have at least done a little more.  The fraternities and sororities at least danced ( whether or not it was good, they at least tried getting their name out there ).  Over all i found somethings that i liked and I’ll consider joining.

Sonia Sotomayor

On 9/22/09 at 12:45 i attended the Seminar about la Señora Sonia Sotomayor the new supreme court justice.  It was pretty interestingbut I didn’t learn anything I haven’talready heard from the news.  she was the first Hispanic woman chosen to be on the supreme court.  She had straight A’s all the way though school.  Now there’s a Hispanic woman (instead of all those of white people) in the supreme court so things might just chance a bit!  But only time will tell how well she’ll do and what changes will be brought or what case will finally be closed.
