Pursuing your passion.

Category: Career Exploration
Date/Time: 12:30-2:30
Description: In this workshop, we talked about different factors that we should consider in choosing our career.  Some include values, interests, and personality.  For values, we did an exercise where we rated what we value the most to the least (ex: Creativity, Economic Security, Leisure Time/Family Life, Earnings, Helping Others etc).  For personality, we were given a paper explaining the six general occupational themes: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional and each theme listed personalities that match with these type of jobs.

I went to a similar workshop where they talked about the Starr Career Center and about job search on the Starr Career website. I found this to be very helpful because I can list specifications of jobs that I am interested in and jobs that will hire me.

Yes, it sort of does, mnauth. But if you already know what area you want to work in, i think you should just go directly to the Starr Career Center ( NVC 2-150 ) for that extra close and personal help. 🙂

Does this workshop also help with career areas? As in, you the area in which you want to work, but are unable to decide which specific job is right for you…Does it help with that?

I thought this workshop was helpful and it aided us in deciding what we want to major in and what our career would be. It made me think about what my values are and what kind of occupational theme would fit me. The presenter also showed us different people who majored in an area different from their career.

I found today’s workshop to be helpful, especially the personality-career test. I think it will help you in taking steps to decide your career or possible careers that may be most fitting for you. Recommended!
