I don’t like talking about suicide because it gives kids ideas on how to do it themselves and how easy it is. And if everyone knows the signs, then the person trying to commit suicide will try his/her hardest not to show the signs, therefore its half and half, these workshops
I thought this workshop was very interesting and eye opening. In the workshop, we watched a film that explained the symptoms to look out for if someone is contemplating suicide (severe depression, out of the norm behavior for that person) and what to do to help a friend who is thinking about suicide (talk to a counselor such as a counselor at Baruch’s counseling center about getting your friend some help or take your friend to a hospital in an event when your friend harms him/herself). Also, there was a discussion about the film and suicide. There was a little argument between two people about why some people commit suicide while others who are depressed don’t, but overall both were stating that everyone handles depression in their own way. Some may understand they are depressed and stay focused on other areas of their life, while others may not understand that they are depressed and contemplate suicide.
