I chose the song Sore ga Ai Deshou (I guess that’s love) by Mikuni Shimokawa.  It’s a Japanese song that was used as an opening for an anime that I really enjoyed watching.  When I first heard this song, it was just amazing.  Even though I didn’t know Japanese and didn’t see the lyrics translated into English yet, the song just sounded so beautiful.  She sings her heart out and you can tell that the lyrics talk about a serious issue of love.  The song kind of starts out like she has a problem but comes to a realization at the end that solves it.  I just like Japanese songs all together because they sound very inspiring and uplifting to the soul.

To be completely honest, I guess I could write a paper about this song due to the fact that it’s about love.  It sounds weird but I believe that love is the most important thing in our life.  Love is more important than being successful or getting that great high paying job.  It’s important to find someone that you will always be happy with, someone you can depend on, someone you can have forever.  These lyrics portray just that feeling of eternal togetherness.  It reminds me of when I learned about love stories in Mythology.  Many of the couples were turned into trees, animals, or other non human things and thus they could be together forever.  There is one in particular I liked about a couple named Ceyx and Alcyone.  It’s about how Ceyx had to go on a ship to see an oracle and the ship sunk.  Alcyone knew he was dead so she went to find his body and she wanted to kill herself.  However, the Gods turned them into birds so they could be together.  So I’d really like to write about love for the paper because I think it would be interesting.

I selected the song “Heal the World” by Michael Jackson. I think this song is significant to work with because within this song, it tries to pass on the message of making this world a better place and everyone should put in effort to make this happen. People shouldn’t be selfish, but rather caring. In this song, he basically says that we together should all heal the world by loving of others and save it for our children, and if we try, we can make it happen. It also lets listeners know that there are many people that need our care and help.

From listening to this song, I felt like I should do something as well. It made me feel sympathetic towards people in other nations that need our help; and it persuaded me to try to do more for other nations and understand the problems and tragedies that they have to face. It would be nice if there was one day when everyone cared for one another and there would be no discrimination or other acts of unkindness. As Jackson mentions in the song, this unity would create a change benefit the entire human race. As a result, this would create a big difference on the world.

This song was very moving and it created strong emotions for people in the world. I even felt the feeling that I should take part in making the world a better place. It also promotes the awareness of unfortunate things that happens to people in other nations like droughts, hunger, and abused children. If we cared for them by donating money to organizations, it would greatly ameliorate the problems in this world that can make it a better place. It would be a place where no one would feel grief or pain and we would all cry happily together.
