On September 17 I attended the Freshman Reception Workshop. This was the first workshop I went to and pretty much all the students there wanted to get the signature and get out. There was a huge amount of kids that attended the workshop, hundreds more than they expected that they had to split us up into different rooms. They simply started sending us into all the empty rooms that they could find on that floor. Simply stated, we were being corralled like cattle.
Originally, we were each supposed to receive a pamphlet with all the material they were going to cover during the workshop but they didn’t expect so many of us showing up that nobody in the room I was sent to got it. A few different people came in apologizing for the inconvenience, and because there was so many people the workshop only lasted about five minutes. The instructor talked very quickly, reiterating a few of the points we were told during freshman orientation, like join clubs and do internships, but other than that they let us go and signed our books. What was originally supposed to be a long and informative workshop ended up being the complete opposite.
