My Dream Job

Hi everyone,

In keeping with the theme of last class, which was career planning, I wanted to give you the opportunity to have some fun. For this blog, I want you to think about and describe your dream job. Where do you work? What is the industry like? What is your position? Who do you work with? Do you make your own hours? How’s your boss? Are you your own boss? Does the girl across the hall never stop talking, etc…

Remember: your dream job doesn’t have to be related to your major/intended major. If you’re an accounting major and really would have liked to pursue professional ice skating, then write about that.

BE CREATIVE =)

For my dream job, I would be working somewhere in Manhattan. I would either have a job playing videos games or watching sports. I would set my own schedules and pace myself throughout the time that I am allowed to work on one project. My boss would be pretty lenient and not give too much work over a short period of time. I would be able to make enough money to support my needs and wants while doing what I want to do for a job.

My plan is to major in accounting, but I did dream about doing something else. It was to become a CSI. I really like the forensic work done for this career. I had done a lot of research about this field and I know that there is so much involved. But I could imagine myself, NOT working at a desk. I would be working with a group of people, all fascinated by forensic science, trying to understand where a piece of glass came from at a scene, or who’s DNA is one the bottle that was used to hit someone. It sounds extreme, but I can imagine have crazy work like that. It’s the investigating and the forensic science that I would enjoy. I would work somewhere in New York, maybe for the state police of the federal. It would be an awesome job, and I would never be bored. =D

My dream job is to be sponsored to play video games. I have heard of some people being sponsored to enter tournaments and play games. Of course these people are very skilled at the games they play. I read about a story of this one guy who is getting paid 300 grand a year to play games. This would be my dream job because i am getting paid for what i love to do most and an education isn’t required! So you can flunk school (although it is not encouraged) and still be successful! The best part about this job is, you only work when a tournament is going to be hosted. Other than that, you do whatever you want until a tournament comes up.

My dream job since I was a child would be a drawing artist. I would work wherever i want and I could draw whatever i want. I would not want a boss because that would limit my choices since i would be told what to draw. The best part of this job would be the freedom and the endless boundaries.

Gosh, Paul. When I read the first sentence of your post, I thought to myself, “Wow, Paul might be my boss in DreamWorld (or whatever this realm of dream jobs is called).” Then, you said it. It’s alright; I don’t mind violence or cursing.. I’ll actually have an excuse: “It was the director’s idea!” 🙂

To Geesoo: I like your post! I chuckled a bit at the last sentence. I love the Food Network 😀

I would like to be a movie director. I really enjoy every movie made by Scorsese, Tarantino, and Spielberg. Also, I just saw Goodfellas and that was awesome. Directors call the shots and they are the true creative force behind the movies. This job would pay me millions of dollars. Kelland, I could probably hire you if you don’t mind a lot of cursing and violence in my movies.

My dream job would be a famous actress. I’d travel to many places to play lead roles. The industry would be filled with gossip, but money would not be an issue. My life would include, if not be surrounded by, many scandals, and of course, the paparazzi. I’d have people to guide me and to take care of the necessary finances to keep me successful in the field. It would not be great to have everyone in the world know how much I’m making, when I mess up, or when I have a bad hair day, but I’d get some attention. I would always look nice when I’m out because not doing so would be too detrimental for my image. I’d also be able to try the finer things in life, ranging from doing stupid things while driving and getting away with it to checking off items on my “To Buy” list whenever I feel like doing so.

I really loved reading everyone’s comments. Very interesting and enthusiastic responses.

Rukmani, are you addicted to the tons of wedding shows that are on TV like I am?

My dream job would be an architect. I remember when I was little that I loved to play with Lego. I could build different sorts of things, of course, using the manual. I want to create my own company and then move overseas. I also need efficient personnel willing to work long hours and come up with new, extravagant ideas. Maybe one day we can design the GREATEST BUILDING EVER BUILT.

I’ve never put much thought into a dream job, aside from a realistic one related to my major so I dont really have one. I guess I would just take one of my hobbies to the next level. My dream job would to be a pro poker player, out in vegas. I’d play hold`em, and I’d be in control of everything. My hours, what days I worked. It’d be a pretty risky lifestyle, but also enjoyable. I’d be content to leave this as a hobby though, and stick to being a WallStreet suit after graduating.

My dream job would be to be an extremely talented website designer. I have experience with this already from high school, and I find it extremely enjoyable. Writing html coding is very easy once you get the hang of it and if you use programs such as Dreamweaver, you dont even have to know anything because the program writes all of the coding for you. Making websites can be extremely profitable because it costs pretty much nothing to write them but if you create an effective layout, a company can pay you top dollar for it.

My dream job would be head of a psychiatric community center. This place will accept walk-ins for people with any sort of issue they wish to talk about. It will focus mainly on correcting depression however, as depression can not only be a fatal disorder, but it can also affect those around the depressed person. As head of the center, I will without a doubt need to manage my employees who will examine patients. I must make sure though that my employees are true to their cause so I will need to run background checks. I only plan to actually go to the center once a week, for I will be doing most of my managing and planning at home. However, I must visit once a week to not only see how everything is going but also to provide my own support. After all, depression’s main cure is having social support. I do not really view this as an idealistic dream job. I plan to make this a reality, hopefully.

Geesoo-You can cater for the weddings I plan.
Amanda-You can photograph for the weddings I plan.
Slu-You can manage my wedding planning business!

  15. R.Nayyar says:

I would love to plan weddings for a living. I know that planning events, esp. weddings, can be very stressful, but at the end of the day you’ve created something beautiful and romantic for a couple to enjoy. Seeing their happy faces and knowing that you’ve been a apart of their special and perfect day makes the job entirely rewarding.
Also, I’m very good at working with my hands and paying attention to the smallest of details. As a wedding planner I can exercise that quality on a daily basis.

My dream job would to be sitting behind a desk in my own office, being my own boss. I am running my own business and very laid back, everything is running smoothly for me and I am not stressed. I’m not entirely sure what kind of business I would be running, but it is definitely something small yet successful, and located in a populous city. I make my own hours and I’m fairly rich.

To Geesoo: That’s so awesome. I love the Food Network! =)

  18. anaraine says:

My favorite sports to play are volleyball and tennis. I also like taking pictures and capturing awesome moments in photographs. Because I like both of these things, I would combine my interests and maybe become a sports photographer. I think it would be inspiring and it would just be an exciting thing for me to do. I would be my own boss of course and I would take as many pictures as I could until I got just the right ones. Then I would probably make a scrapbook of all of them but I really do not see how I would make money off of this. I will probably end up doing this as a hobby. =)

  19. gkim says:

I would be a TV chef if I had my choice of careers. I work at the Food Network center in New York. The prospect of being able to cook well is really exciting. I do not want to be on television, but I need to make money some way. My dreams are not vivid so I can not write any more.
