Suicide Prevention

1. Suicide Prevention

2. Personal Enrichment

3.Nov 19, 2009; 1-2

4. This workshop was about the causes of suicide, how to detect suicide in someone else, and how to help somebody suicidal.

5.I chose this workshop because it was the last workshop left in the personal enrichment category. It took me out of my comfort zone because suicide is a heavy topic regardless of how poorly the information on it is presented.

6. I would not recommend this workshop to anybody. It was so inneffective, even the proctors were sitting around eating popcorn. 3/4 of the workshop was a video about teens that either comitted suicide, attempted to, or knew someone who did.

7.I learned that if somebody you know is acting very strange and no longer enjoys the things they used to,  they might be suicidal.

Impression Management

1. Impression Management

2. Career Exploration

3. 11/24/09 – 12:50 – 2:00

4. The workshop had demonstrated the ways in which one should prepare themselves in class and in higher works during the future. It talked about the need to be socially involved in classroom discussion and they way it could enrich our career life.

5. The main reason i did this workshop was because it was the last workshop left for career exploration but I was surprised to learn about the importance of having a good impression in school and work. It definitely took me out of my comfort zone because the speaker had been involved with the entire class and we were also in a group discussion with people who I never even knew before.

6. For me the workshop had been above expectation because I didn’t expect the workshop to be so lively and fun with the past experience I have had with other workshop. I would definitely recommend this workshop to other student especially those who are shy because the speaker easily gets them involved in the discussion.

7. I learned mainly that impressions in classes are made by being on time and by being actively participating in group discussions. Also the fatc that dressing up well defines who the person really is in classes and in workplace and it determines to be a little improtant in gainging promotions in jobs.

Impression Management

  1. Impression Management
  2. Career Exploration
  3. 11/24/09 12:50-2:10
  4. The workshops main purpose was to educate the students about how are actions can create impressions on the people around us. It discussed how first impressions affect our social, academic, and career life.
  5. I decided to attend this workshop because i wanted to learn about how to present myself in the workforce, and create the maximum impression. It seemed like a workshop that would be easy for a student to relate with, and actually show interest in. It did take me out of my comfort zone because i was forced to socialize with someone i did not know. The presenter would not let me do the group activity with someone i knew.
  6. This workshop met my expectations. I learned about how punctuality, dressing style, and overall presentation of one’s self, affects how seriously they are taken. I would recommend it to other students because the presenter was very enthusiastic and succeeded in bringing the whole group together.
  7. I already said what i learned, punctuality, appearance, self confidence…But besides that i learned that i shouldn’t hesitate to talk to new people, since i have to do it next semester. None of my friends so far are in the same classes as me. From this experience i will take away the hope of impressing everyone with my impression management skills.

UNICEF Fundraiser

1) UNICEF fundraiser/bake sale

2)Community/Global Awareness

3) November 17, 12:25-2:30

4)  We got together to sell baked or bought good in order to collect money for children in poor countries.

5) The only fundraiser I participated in was for my a few weeks ago called MPAG.  What we did was sell a lot of Spanish food, like empanadas, and also some Halloween cakes.   The only comparison I would have to say is the fact that this money goes to help the world and spreads awareness, whereas our bake sell was only to collect money for ourselves and the club.   I believe that after taking part in this fundraiser, I would like to participate in future ones because it was really easy and we did collect some money.  When you put things like food and good cause together, it’s always easy to collect money.   Overall, I would take away the fact that hopefully with small steps, people can make a difference and help these unfortunate children out there.

Job Fair Preparation

  1. Job Fair Preparation
  2. Career Exploration
  3. November 19th, 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm
  4. This workshop was meant to help college students to prepare for the Job Fair. The speakers went through all the steps needed to be successful.
  5. I needed this workshop to fulfill my career exploration requirement. It did not take me outside of my comfort zone because I was just listening and taking notes.
  6. This workshop went beyond my expectations. It was the best workshop I have ever gone to so far. I would recommend it to everyone because they can learn so much on how to prepare for the workforce.
  7. I noticed that I am well behind what I should be at. I need to start building a good resume, practicing my “elevator speech,” and building good networks. It is not easy for me to go and talk to people, but the only way to gain confidence is by gaining experience.

UNICEF FUNDRAISER

  1. UNICEF Fundraiser/Bake Sale
  2. Community/Global Awareness
  3. November 17th, 12:25 pm – 2:30 pm
  4. The money collected from this workshop/bake sale was going to be donated to UNICEF, which helps children from developing nations.
  5. I participated in a fundraiser during my senior year in high school to help those people affected in China by the earthquake. We also did a bake sale and collected donations. I would like to participate in future fundraising projects. It is always nice to be able to help those in need. At the end of the day you can feel happy and satisfied that you did something good.

UNICEF Fundraiser

1. UNICEF fundraiser/bake sale
2. Community/Global Awareness
3. November 17, 12:25-2:30
4. I baked brownies for this event, which was held to gather funds for UNICEF.
5. I have previously done a UNICEF fundraiser, but there wasn’t a bake sale involved. I felt like this was more successful than my previous experience, because all I did was ask people for money. There wasn’t really much of an experience for me, since all I did was bake, but I wouldn’t mind doing future fundraisers, it seems fun.

UNICEF Fundraiser

1. UNICEF Fundraiser/Bake Sale

2. Community/Global Awareness

3. November 17, 2009 12:30-2:30

4. I was suppose to be at the table from 1:15-1:45, but I ended up staying from 1:10-2:10. Obviously, we sold cake, cookies, donuts and brownies at the table.

5. I have participated in Fundraisers before but I think they went much better in the past. I felt awkward standing there being rejected by a whole bunch of people (haha), but  nevertheless I had fun. I even took some cupcakes to sell in our music class and it was so quiet in the elevator and I asked “Would anyone like to buy a cupcake?” Everybody just looked at me weird and I was like “I’m serious.” It was hilarious. i would definately participate in another fundraiser in the future.

VA Hospital

  1. VA Hospital Volunteering
  2. a) Community/Global Awareness
  3. 11/20/09, VA Hospital
  4. I put cards into envelopes to send to friends of the hospital. The goal was to alleviate the workload of the busy hospital workers.
  5. I decided to volunteer because I wanted to fulfill this requirement. I didn’t feel uncomfortable. How could I just putting cards in envelopes?
  6. The volunteering felt nice. I would recommend all people to volunteer their time.
  7. I didn’t learn anything from volunteering.

Career Exploration: Job Fair Preparation

1. Job Fair Preparation

2. Career Exploration

3. 11/19/09, 12:30-2:00

4. The goal of this workshop was to help us be prepared for job interviews and how to look presentable.

5. I choose this workshop because I knew I would need this information in the near future.  It will help me be prepared to meet job recruiters and how to interact with them, as well as build a social network that will give me a better chance at landing me a job.

6. This workshop exceeded my expectations.  The presenters got their message across in a very clear and understandable way.  I also learned a lot about how to pay very close attention to detail in terms of how I dress, listen to other people, and speaking back.

7. I would recommend this workshop to everyone, including those above the freshmen level.  What I shall do now is to try to be a more active listener as well as start practicing my elevator speeches.
