Suicide Prevention
1. Suicide Prevention
2. Personal enrichment
3. November 19, 2009 1:00 – 2:00
4. This workshop was about suicide prevention and it showed the symptoms of depression and how to help others with their feeling of suicide
5. I chose this workshop mainly becuse this was the one and last workshop for personal enrichment left to complete.
6. I was not expecting to gain anything from it but It was still impressive as they showed videos about poeple who had tried to commit suicide. I would recommend this workshop to people who are feeling mentally depressed a lot.
7. This workshop showed me that the reason towards depression is caused by chronic depression. People with many scars on thier hands by show symptoms of suicide. I also learned that 80 percent of the time depression is curable and that counsel is a must for people for poeple who are having feeling of suicide.
UNICEF
1) Unicef Fundraiser
2) Community Global Awareness
3) November 17, 2009 12:25 pm – 2:30 pm
4) This event is a fundraiser. We had a bake sale and I collected donations with another classmate. We also sold cupcake lollipops. The goal was to raise funds for UNICEF.
5) I chose this event because it was a LC group activity. Majority of my LC class went to complete the Community Global Awareness requirement. Collecting donations did not take me out of my comfort zone. Rather, it was quite enjoyable.
6) I did not have any expectations because i only had to collect as much donations as possible. I heard, however, that we did raise more money than expected. I would recommend this event to others because it was fun and helped a good cause.
7) From this experience, i learned how difficult collecting donations is when majority of the people passing by have ear phones in their ears or talking on the phone. Overall, i think the event was very enjoyable.
UNICEF
- UNICEF fundraiser/bake sale
- Community/Global Awareness
- November 17, 12:25-2:30
- This fundraiser gave me the job to make the price label for the food. It was very easy because the max labels needed were up to two dollars. It was the first fundraiser at Baruch of which I was part of. I had to work with a partner from a different LC who was fun.
- I have participated in fundraisers, but this was my first at Baruch. In my previous fundraisers, I was in charge of collecting money and handing the foo,d which was more extreme than this one. I might be doing more fundraisers as it proves to be a good way to be helpful from where you are and it gives me an opportunity about making others aware about why the fundraisers occur. I will take away that this was the most easiest job ever to just label.
My Dream Job
If I ever get a chance of becoming my dream job, it would be actuarial manager. I would have the opportunity to make a beautiful six digit salary that starts with the number five by putting my load of work on the regular actuaries. Sure it seems cruel, but power of a manager is just inspiring especially since I would be only working for three hours. As I gaze through my air conditioned office, I know right after that, I and few other managers will hit the basketball court. But I would still keep helping the young actuaries because it’s the only way the business runs smoother. And considering that actuarial manager would be the brains of the industry, the chances of losing your job would be zero percent. If only it were a reality.
Mediating Conflict and Resolving Disputes at Baruch College
- Mediating Conflict and Resolving Disputes at Baruch College
- f) Personal Enrichment
- 11/12/09 12:30-2:30
- The workshop was suppose to help students learn how to mediate and resolve conflicts.
- I selected this workshop because I wanted to learn more ways to resolve conflicts without resorting to violence. I did take me outside my comfort zone because I had to sit on the floor due to the over-packed room.
- This workshop failed my expectations because majority of the conversation was about how an ombud can help mediate and resolve conflicts. I would not recommend it to another student because a lot of people were uncomfortable sitting at anyplace with free space and the workshop was not informative enough.
- I learned that an ombud can help two people in conflict work things out when they have trouble talking with each other. I never knew such a thing existed until I went to this workshop.
SCDC: Internship & Goal Setting
1. SCDC: Internship & Goal Setting
2. Career Exploration
3. November 10, 2009, 12:30-2:00
4. This workshop was about helping us understand internships and about jobs/careers in the future.
5. I chose this workshop because the description made it sound interesting. It sounded like something that would really benefit me, not like the Freshman Reception or Club Fair.
6. The workshop turned out to be excellent, compared to what I thought it was going to be. The speaker was great. She said everything clearly and really showed that she indeed wanted to help us. That was good. I would say that this speaker would be the second greatest public speaker I know.
7. I learned so much about internship opportunities here at Baruch, and I am really excited about getting these opportunities. The only thing I had a question about was why we had to sign in two times: once on paper and then on the computer. I think the workshop would have started sooner with signing in just on the computer or just on paper. This is a workshop I would recommend to any student. It gives you an idea about everything around you, about your work in school, and the work you will have in the future.
