What First Semester?
You know your semester is starting to come to a close when you have to start registering for classes for the next semester. Boy, what a semester it had turned out to be though!
Who says you need a Learning Community to enjoy Baruch? Our KM3B group did a excellent job of out of school bonding. We all kept in contact with each other via text, aim, Facebook, email and many other ways. We went on many trips to museums and haunted houses together. Also most importantly we ate together. Eating was something that seemed to bring us all together because we all got hungry or needed coffee at about the same times.
Freshman Seminar was just the icing on the oh-so-delicious cupcake I would call this first semester. This class allowed us to come together and talk about the classes that we shared and what was bothering us about them. When it came time to study we pushed each other to work hard and get good grades.
I really enjoyed this experience and would do it again if ever given the opportunity.

Taking in Some Culture
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of being able to go to the Rubin Museum of Art over on West 17th Street, along with some of my favorite Baruchers. Together we roamed the streets of Manhattan as we walked over to the museum from Baruch. Once we got there we were instantly surprised by the sheer beauty of the museum. The museum was obviously very well kept and modern.
As we made our way through all the exhibits and through the floors, I began to notice a recurring theme of Asian Art. There were many intricate pieces of art that caught my attention. At one in particular I stopped with a few friends and we had a discussion about what the piece of art really meant. In the end we were able to agree that the piece of the art represented the triumph of evil over good. When we left the museum we realized that we had learned a lot of things about Asian Culture and art that we didn’t know going in.
All in all I would say that it was a good trip and I would enjoy going to another museum with the same group of people. I thank Baruch for allowing us to go to this museum for free and for encouraging us to explore it.

Let’s Meet Li! (Academic Enrichment)
A while back I attended a panel discussion with Charles N. Li and a few Baruch faculty. When I was initially invited to this panel I was excited because I was under the impression that the panel would be focusing mainly on the book The Bitter Sea by Charles N. Li, which was our summer reading assignment and a book that I enjoyed. So you can imagine my disappointment when I found out that instead it was going to be a panel about identity.
At first I felt mislead and was disappointed but as the panel began and I heard what Mr. Li had to say about his identity and what impact it had on him, I began to enjoy it. It was interesting to hear how he ended up absorbing a new identity with each new setting. It also got me to start thinking about my own identity.
The discussion was very pleasant and enriching. I hope that in the future I would be able to attend another event like this. Who knows, maybe next time it will be me up on that stage talking about my identity!

Work Workshop (Career Exploration)
The other day me and my crew of comrades headed off to a workshop by the STARR Career Development Center. Prior to going to the workshop me and many others were doing the usual complaining about why do we have to go to these workshops and yada yada yada.
However, I believe most of us left there with a totally different attitude. Personally I found this to be very helpful and really wished that I gone to a workshop like this before going to my first interview, because it would have been very helpful and helped me to avoid some things I might have done wrong.
This was a great workshop that helped me tone up my resume and be aware of the offerings of the STARR website and office. I look forward to using this free service to help me in the future.

I am the Monologue.
Day 5:
5 days in and I think I can really get the hang of this whole college thing. And boy does Baruch love its free writes. Just right now I’m writing my thirds on in only 5 days, much more than the 0 I used to write in the last four years.
So its day one of our very first Freshman Seminar class, and looking around is seem allot of familiar faces, maybe because they’re the same people from my other classes, hehe.
So for this free write we were asked to write about one thing that we like least about ourselves, which turned out to be easy because my friends were quick to point out- that’s right it’s my height. Yes, that’s right; Baruch is a place of Giants and me? Well I’m barely average height.
As I start out this year I see myself as young new freshman about to explore the sweet College Life, and I can’t wait to begin!
Day 12:
Today the adviser asked us “What are your afraid of?” I had a simple one word reply to that question: Chambre. We got this “interesting” Sociology teacher who seems to have a problem with just about everything. What I’m really afraid of is that one day I might come into class late =S
However, other than that I’m your average happy go-lucky guy who is glad to have all these friends surrounding him. Friends and good grades right now are two of the most important things right now.
Day 19:
Embarrassed? I was full on rosy cheeks, the whole lecture class is looking at me, embarrassed just a few minutes ago in Politics before class when I made a joke to my friend and the entire class heard it and pretty much everyone turned around and looked at me. Embarrassed didn’t even begin to describe how I was feeling in that moment. Thank god I lived through it and got over it thought.
I’ve also come up with a new modo today- Live everyday like it’s your last.
Day 26:
So it’s been about a month at Baruch and so far I’m loving it. Sure the early mornings can be quite a drag but after all things seem to be fine. By the time I get my coffee and I get to Baruch everything seems to be ok and my day goes on.
However, time still remains one of my biggest problems not only for me but for some of my other peers. I’ve notices on Tuesdays’ and Thursdays the trains can be especially cruel to its passengers.

I am who I am (Who are U?)- KP
The other day an acquaintance of mine asked me “Who do you think you are?” and that got me thinking, “Maybe I should write a blog about that.”
So here I am. First off, my name is Kevin Persaud. As far as I know I’m an 18 year old Guyanese/American young man who was born and raised in the great area that we can New York. All thought I was born in America I take great pride in my culture and language and enjoy practicing it regularly. I am an only child, so I’m used to having the spotlight shone on me. I also have one of the most common first names around which can sometimes make it harder for me to be a unique as I want, but I usually find other ways to deal with that. I grew up in Queens and have dreams of moving to (Manhattan) someday. This is part of the reason I love Baruch so much.
In my spare time I love to travel to new places. I’ve been to many parts of the world Caribbean, Europe, & South America. Also I LOVE to DANCE, pretty much if I hear anything that has a good beat I can start dancing to it pretty quickly. You could also describe me as a sort of media buff because I like to keep up with many TV shows and with both Hollywood and Bollywood movies.
I had many concerns about my freshman year at Baruch College. Like many other freshmen I started out this year extremely nervous about how my time at Baruch will turn out. One of my top concerns about my freshman year was that I was going to get a few of those evil teachers you see on T.V. who takes pleasure in torturing their students. Thankfully I did not have to worry about that because I found my professors to so far be very good and helpful. Another concern of mine is that I would not like the people around Baruch, but any worries I had about that were taken away on the first day when I realized all the people that were in my block are in all of the same classes as me. My last concern was that I would be constantly getting myself lost. I still am finding myself a little bit lost at times but it is not as bad as expected.
There are many differences between Baruch and High School. For example, I now have lecture classes that require me to pay more attention to the professor and take detailed notes. Also in some of my classes I enjoy the small student to teacher ratio we have, because it allows for more interaction with the professor.
I have high hopes for Baruch College. I believe that my time at Baruch will change the way I look at the world and everything in it. At the same time Baruch will also introduce me to exciting new things while opening many doors for me.
