LC 01

As I write this little post, I should be working but instead I am going to leave you with a farewell note.

I highly doubt anyone will check this but it’s worth it.

As we drift away, just remember that I may seem like a cold-hearted person, but really I am just wanting you all to learn. Learn on your own and hoping for the best. I hope your registration went well as I was observing that a lot of students did not get their classes but typically that is what happens. Just take a moment to reflect on your friendships with your LC and take it all in because they are your friends, “adult, mature” friends. It may not seem like it now but the fact that you took the initiative to have an LC, not many can say. Your community is a community that watches out for one another. Hopefully you all will keep in touch and remember the times you had when you were all together.

Mid November

Well it’s near the termination of my first semester here at Baruch. It’s been great meeting new people and making new friends. Today was our last day of Freshman Seminar, and it truly was a great learning experience. My first semester here at Baruch was exactly what I imagined. A challenge, yet, a chance to start a new chapter in my life. Resources such as SACC and STARR are great here at Baruch because they really care about the students and want them to succeed during their college years. My math class has been a great challenge for me this semester, because the professor clearly dislikes me. He is very inapproachable outside of class and tends to be very disorganized in his teaching methods. Other then Math, I’m happy with the way things are going this semester, and hopefully I do well on my finals. I can definitely say that my approach towards academics will be much different next semester.

this semester been a challenge. I am not doing as well as i hoped i would do in school. I need to study harder harder for my finals. I think i will be able to turn it around if i get 100s on my finals which i still have doubts for. If i were able to do start this semester earlier i would find a better way to study for psychology. I think i would study even harder and go to more tutoring session. I would give up whats left of my social life which is none. I might even start drinking coffee to stay more alert. But this semester have been a very challenging one for me.

Mid November

Now that almost all of the first semester has come and gone for me at Baruch I’m feeling a little more comfortable with my surroundings but still expect things to change for the better. I have to admit there are times I still feel like I haven’t gotten to know enough people and whether that can be attributed to my schoolwork/weekend job overload or just maybe a lack of effort I don’t know. The time has really flown and I can’t really say that’s a bad thing because I look forward to choosing new classes and maybe with that, learning more about myself and what I want to do. Sometimes I do wonder if I’ll be able to keep in touch with the people from my LC and I hope that I can. They are pretty cool and it’d be a shame to see them as just random strangers after the semesters over, as often happens with classmates. Looking towards my future here, I hope I can do my best to keep up with my classes and in the meantime, enjoy myself during that time.

Rubin Museum

The Rubin Museum was a very calm place perfect for the type of work that was displayed there. Much of it was religious and of different cultures which was interesting to me because I had never known what kind of work was actually in the Rubin. I felt pretty relaxed as I walked through each room and saw everything from Buddhist sculptures to different paintings depicting Jesus or other religious figures. This wide range of ideas left me with an open mind about peoples beliefs and how they express them artistically. I also really enjoyed the layout with the large spiral staircase and how it cut through each floor throughout the building which made the Rubin easy to navigate through. I left there thinking how I’d like to come back at some point and maybe even show other people who had little knowledge of the Rubin like I did.

Second Meet in the Multi Purpose Room

This workshop help us when it came to writing a Resume and when going into a interview. They tried to explain to us how a proper resume should look by giving us examples. When it came to the interview they told us to have a Personal Pitch. Personal pitch is basically the way you try to sell yourself in other to get a job in a interview. Also they told us that we should look up information on the company you are trying to work for, so when they ask you if you have any questions you are able to impress the interviewer.

This meeting was very helpfull because it helped me with the process for registration. The presentor was really straight foward and gave us a lot of  information. Althought some of the information was just being refreshed from the virtual L.U.C.Y program we had to do before we registered for orientation. Now i also know were to look for classes that i need to take and how to do it. Which will be very helpfull for Monday the 23rd when i have to register for classes.

Rubin Museum

The Rubin Museum was very neat and was very aesthetically pleasing. The staircase in the middle was very unique, and on the 2nd-3rd floor there was a eye shaped thing that was hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the spiral staircase that i thought was very neat. The overall atmosphere of the museum was very calm. What was very odd was that some pieces of art weren’t protected by a case, so people can touch and damage the work, and even though some floors didn’t allow photography to be taken, there was a lack of security to enforce the ban. I started taking pictures on the 5th floor, and about 3 to 4 pictures after, i realized that the walls said no photos. What was very interesting was:

A. There were a few exhibitions with Jesus and the Holy trinity depicted

B. There was a recreated Buddhist Shrine with authentic relics, statues, etc.

The Museum was very interesting and i would definitely go back. I learned that this was my first Asian-themed museum that i have gone to.

Rubin Museum

The Rubin Museum was quite a dark place. The lighting in the museum quite emphasized the background of the Himalayan Arts and Tibetan Gods. Numerous structures have been to revere the history that their generation has made. It is quite impressive to see the skill of craftsmanship developed at such early ages. Perhaps machines today can’t even make sculptures as good as what has been displayed at the museum. It can also be told that they were very religious people. Numerous Gods Sculptures have been made to show their respect to their gods. There was also this shrine on the second floor, displaying the realm of the sacred gods. Cameras weren’t allowed, emphasizing the importance they have implanted in theses structures even till this day. It was quite a religious place, sort of like when I visited the temples in China. Very calm, in a sense that it’s freaky. However, I expected more of the museum. It didn’t quite satisfy the original standards I’ve set it to have. But, overall. it was quite a joy to see the art created by previous generations. Pieces of elaborate that one can only envy while the sculptures tells it’s stories.

Mishkin Gallery

Instead of going to the Rubin museum i decided to explore in our own backyard here at Baruch. I decided to go to the Mishkin Gallery. This gallery to me did not exist until yesterday in the afternoon. I went in expecting to be bored and to just look around at pictures that wouldnt catch my attention. I was completly wrong. This little gallery next to the 23rd street building is amazing, it has a collection of many abstract works from the late 19th century. Once i stepped into this room i was another person, a more artistic one. One of my close friends was with me and we were both discussing the art work and trying to explain to each other what we saw in the abstract work. I feel that not a lot of people know about this gallery and that Baruch should try and make  more well known atleast within the school community.
