Rubin Museum of Art

When I walked towards the spiral staircase to begin my exhibit, I thought that the staircase and the unique sculpture dangling down was very unique. There was also a strong smell that reminded me of curry. Kind of reminded me of  curry food, so I got really hungry. Each level in the Rubin Museum displayed different kind of art involved with different kind of culture. As I walked around the floor, i saw the amazing paintings. I learned that each painting contains narrative or stories related to the main subject. I thought that the way they designed their sculptures were very amazing. The intense amount of detail they put in was remarkable. And for them to design that back in 13-15th century is just amazing. I realized that the names for the sculptures was just weird and I could not understand them, like: Reliquary Stupa, Guhyasamaja. As I progress in the exhibition, I learned how they developed the sculptures. It was called the Nepalese Technique of Hollow Metal Casting. This technique was passed down for thousands of years. The technique is comprised of many steps. The first step was to create the wax model, then made the mold by dipping it in fine clay mixture. After that they drain the wax by applying intense heat to melt the wax. Then they pour metal into the spacing that was drained out by the wax. After letting the metal cool, they break the mold sculpture and apply details on the final piece.

I thought that the Rubin Museum was a great place for students to realize how much culture and religion means to people. I had a lot of fun to go with my class mates who also had to go to the Rubin Museum. The paintings and sculptures were very amazing and I had an amazing time.

3rd required post-Mid novemeber

Now that my first semester at Baruch college as a freshmen is almost over, I had a great experience. Baruch College has many things to offer to their students. From Greek life, honor societies, SACC, STARR and many more other things for me to explore has to offer. They have helped me develop skills that I need for future references. These organizations offer help for students that are in need. I think that Baruch College really exceeded my expectations because I wasn’t really prepared for the amount of work they offered.

I thought that my first semester could have went better. I still kind of had that “senioritis” in me which caused me to slack a bit in my classes. But other than that, I think I’m doing pretty well in my classes.

If I could do something differently, it would be my school work and chose different classes. Such as art. I never really liked art and for me to spend hours and hours each day just to finish and catch up the pace the professor wanted was just unbearable for me. But other than that, I think i wouldn’t have done anything different. I got to know all my LC mates and some of them are really down to earth people and I enjoy just spending time with them.

The one thing I noticed that I changed and my old friends noticed was that, I was very open to new experiences. I became a more open person who was willing to try new things.

1st meeting in the Multipurpose Room

It was very unfortunate that I missed the last couple of FRO classes which ended in me missing out on a workshop. After finding out what I missed on, I tried to catch up with the work myself outside of class. I learned that we learned about registering for classes and the whole process of it. They talked about classes we should take what courses are best for our majors. Even though I was a little disappointed on missing this class. I went and did research on this subject so I wouldn’t miss out in the knowledge. I made an appointment in the advisement center on the 5th floor to meet with an adviser who could tell me about which classes I should take.  I was given a list of classes which I could take and some I should take concerning my credits and career. Other than that, tomorrow I am meeting with a Pre Law adviser on the STAR center to understand which direction I should go seeing as Law is the future I want.

Rubin museum

today i went to the Rubin museum and had the time of my life. Upon entering it smelled like curry but as we got close to the food registers it started to smell like coffee. The place was tidy so it was comfortable to be around. There was a place where you can pray to budda which made me feel uncomfortable. It was really religious and sent a weird vibe down my spine. The stairs were uniquely designed and made me feel anxious to learn about the museum.  There were so many new ideas swirling in my head that i cant remember any at the moment.

Second Multipurpose Room Meeting

I found the second meeting in the multipurpose room to be helpful as well in showing me that whether it comes to finding jobs or internships, or even learning more about future careers, Baruch has resources to help me in the process. I also found out that I can get resume or interview help from the career center. This is great because even though I have a resume and have gone on numerous interviews, I could probably polish up some of my skills and my resume so that I have the best chance at landing the job I want. I noticed on the example resume that I could definitely make a few important changes to mine and plan on doing so, so that on future interviews I am well prepared. I am glad I found out about this resource and will now be sure to use the career center if I need to during my time at Baruch.

First Multipurpose Room Meeting

I found the first meeting in the multipurpose room to be helpful in letting me know exactly how registering for classes next semester will work. Even though I will admit much of the information seemed straightforward and somewhat obvious, it was good to see exactly how the site will look and how to take care of the whole process since they presented it to everyone. I also think it was good how the peer mentors and everyone there that day who had already done this process numerous times before made themselves available for questions or concerns if needed. I now know that if I find the process confusing in any way I will have people to turn to and registering for classes will be simple.

The First Meeting in The Multipurpose Room

I had no idea what the meeting was about because i didn’t read the email. I was glad i attended because it was very informative about the process of signing up for classes. I learned that freshman are at the bottom of the ladder when it comes to choosing classes, and we have “appointments”, a time where we can start registering. The speaker also showed us a lot of prerequisite classes that one has to take before entering the Zicklin School of Business, classes that i did not know i had to take in order to join Zicklin. Also i found out that each school requires different core classes and a different amount of credits. Overall the first meeting was very important and enlightening.

Whitney Museum

I never knew college had mandatory field trips, until we went to the Whitney Museum.I around looking at his scribbles and doodles to his wonderful masterpieces in a well kept museum, with security guards constantly grilling me. The presentation of the works was what really stood out to me because it was a retrospective of his work throughout his life. His early works usually had dark and gloomy motifs, but as time passed his works started becoming brighter. What was even more interesting was when the class was discussing one particular, Charles Burchfield’s granddaughter was there also! She gave us some insight on some of the paintings Charles painted. The floor above burchfield’s was contemporary art, and it was a bit more interesting. There was this figure made out of copper. From one angle it looked like a girl was on top of the guy, but if you walked around the figure looked like the guy was on top of the girl. (Apparently they were having sex.) There was a very creepy realistic wax figure of a grandmother that nearly scared me out of my wits. At the end of the day my feet felt tired and i want to just go home because I walked around for too long.

Post Monologue

After i had written my monologue, i felt a sense of calmness and peace. I felt like my monologue gave a brief insight on my daily life and i am glad that i finished writing it. Unfortunately i did not get to present it in person, so it is on this blog, which probably will never be read.  IF i did present this in person, i would probably be a bit nervous because i am a terrible public speaker, so i would be worried if i sounded foolish or put something stupid in my monologue.

1ST meeting in the multipurpose room

Well i think in this meeting they talked about registering for classes. This is very helpful because they recommended to you what classes you should take next semester. Even though some of the points were cover during the freshmen orientation it was nice to refresh my memory. They also tell you what classes you dont need any more depending on your major. I found out that i don’t need to take a foreign language class which is a good thing for me. They also tell you where to look to find out when you can register for classes. I thought this was a very effective and helpful workshop
