Monologue

Purple is my favorite color. The color of royalty fit for a queen-born on Thursday- definition of my name. Basketball is one of my favorite past times, the best sport ever. Currently “Life” has yet to be lived. Right now it’s at a halt, academics a stress. But I hope to find the meaning sooner than later; My goals, a universe surrounding. Family is the most important thing in my life. Independence however is a necessity. College; High school is nothing compared to this. They did not prepare me for this. However I am on the pursuit of happiness. Musically inclined, my words just flow on the sheets, blackberry like Drake- my instrument for my music 🙂

WHO AM I?

Who am I?
I am a loving sister and daughter.
I am a devout Christian.
I am Ghanian- a descendant of West  Africa.
I am a best friend and confidante.
I am an athlete.
I am a budding fashionista who has an eye for fashion.
I am an ambitious young woman who will stop at nothing to achieve her dreams.
I am a college student.
I am a Baruch Bearcat.

My top 3 concerns at Baruch were whether I would get all my supplies on time, social life and food options. I wasn’t too worried about meeting new people and making friends. Its COLLEGE! Lol. I dove headfirst into college life without turning back. I had been thinking about getting all my supplies for my classes. That was the most stressful part. Getting the necessary textbooks for the cheapest prizes possible. That was my main priority because quizzes were already being announced. It was a hectic first few weeks. I officially have everything I need. The reason I was concerned about the social life is I wanted the school to be interactive. I wanted to be able to join as many activities as possible(thats not going too great.) Just trying to settle in and get a feel of everything. But I do plan on doing major things later on. I was worried about food options becaues we all know about the Freshamn 15 and I was not trying to fall in that trap(though a recent article argues its more like freshman 7) My friends and I like to eat around and experiment with the different cultural foods exposed(established) around the school.

I think the difference between my college experience and my highschool experience is the responsibility. When a teacher gives you an assignment thats it. There’s no “I forgot,” “Oh here’s an extension,” or “Here’s a make up.” I haven’t seen this yet anyway. What I know is that I have to read the books on my own time, study on my own time, and I better be prepared by the next class to take that quiz or test or whatever is being given that day.  There are no reminders as much you would want there to be. You have to manage your time wisely especially if you have other things going on besides school. You have to make things happen, and and you have to force yourself to complete these tasks however possible. A plus however is that there are so many different people that you are bound to meet new people everyday. If you allow yourself. It’s not l like highschool where everyone knows exactly who you are.

I think my first year at college is already effecting me. I feel older and more responsible and less likely to procrastinate because I know i have to get things done. This is a stepping stone to my future career. Yes I know college are the years you will most enjoy, but I am more focused than ever.
