Career Workshop
A lot of the stuff that was said I had already learned in another series of mandatory workshops I had to attend for a summer youth employment program. But this workshop did clarify a lot of things about the interview process that I did not previously know I had to do such as the thank you letters. I just felt that there wasn’t that much opportunity for us to ask individual questions because there were just so many students packed into the one room we were in. I know its not really possible for there to be a workshop solely for the LC but that would be nice if it were. Maybe a little mock interview session would be very helpful too just so that we can practice or observe what we just learned.
Final Blog post
Career Exploration
I’m going to level with you; I don’t remember much about the Career Exploration presentation. I must have been reading Harry Potter on my ipod or something because I remember being there in the multi-purpose room, signing the sheet and sitting down for a good hour but every little else. If I had to guess, I’d say the presentation was on the three schools in Baruch and the resources available that can help us choose our major. I also remember hearing something about internships and resumes. I knew about all of that already so it’s all good.I’m not going to say the presentation was useless – I’m sure there are people that need to brush up on their resume-building skills and all that jazz but I did not feel the presentation taught me anything new.
Rubin Museum
I thoroughly disliked my visit to the Rubin Museum. Don’t get me wrong; I appreciate the richness of the museum’s collection, but the museum’s presentation of their Himalayan artifacts was not engaging at all. The point of the mandatory visit is to get us to appreciate other cultures or something like that and I feel this trip did not do that for me at all. Not even a little bit. Sorry but I’m just not interested in Himalayan art.
Final Blog :D
a) My experience at Baruch is alot different than what I thought it would be. In the summer I really didn’t want to come here for some reason and I wish I had went away. Now I’m glad I came here;I kind of still wish I went away but I’m pretty comfortable now.
b) My first semester went good. I surprisingly had fun, met some good people, and made it through.
c) I would manage my time better if I could do it all over. I always find myself leaving everything til the day before or even the morning of the due date. Bad habit that I’ve had since like 6th grade, so I guess I can’t really change anything.
d) I don’t think I’ve changed too much this past semester. I might have become more care-free than I already was, which is probably a bad thing.
Career Exploration Blog
The Career Exploration workshop was okay. The woman speaking was very alert and kept my attention, I guess because she was trying to go fast. I think she layed out everything in that book we got on the way in. So I think it would have been better for her to just have given us the book because honestly no one is going to remember anything she said when it comes time to actually write the resume were all going to look in the book. But overall it wasn’t so bad.
Rubin Blog
I really didn’t like the Rubin Museum at all. Honestly, all I did was get the ticket, walk up to the second floor, glanced around. then made my way back to the front and left. All of those ancient artifacts do not interest me whatsoever.
Baruch Experience
a. My Baruch experience was okay. I think it has somewhat lived up to my expectations. I’ve met some really cool people within the last few weeks.
b. I think I did okay for my first semester. I think there is always room for improvement. I think could have done better.
c. I would have become more familiar with the campus and its facilities sooner than later.
d. I learned how to be more independent and have better time management skills.
Career Exploration
I actually learned a lot from the Career Exploration workshop. I liked how they showed us how to create a resume. They showed us what we shouldn’t and shouldn’t include within our resume. Also, I liked how they gave us advice on preparing for an interview. I thought the Starr Search part of the workshop was very helpful. I learned how I can find internships in the field I want to pursue. Overall, this workshop was very helpful for me.
Rubin Museum of Art
I thought the Rubin Museum of Art was interesting. I liked the different type sculpture they had inside. I thought that each truly depicted the Buddhist and Indian culture very well. I thought it would be even more interesting if we had a person to explain each piece to us. It would have helped make the experience a little more interesting and fun. Overall, I thought it was a good trip.
