My experience at Baruch has definitely been an eye-opening one. In many ways, it did meet my expectations of what college would be like in terms of the amount of work, the level of maturity in the students, and the numerous activities throughout the campus to participate in. My first semester I think went pretty well. I met alot of nice people whom I hope to keep in contact with after the semester is over. I definitely feel though that I could have done better in terms of managing my time and not procrastinating my work. Since I’ve started college however, I feel like I have matured in terms of realizing my priorities.

The Career Exploration workshop, to me, was actually very informative. They showed us alot about how one should create their own resume, which I had learned a while ago, but needed to be refreshed. In which, the speaker told us what to put in and what not to put in, and generally how to conduct ourselves in an interview. There was something mentioned about some sort of Starr Search thing, though I was not quite clear of what it was. All in all, I learned quite a bit from this workshop.

My visit to the Rubin Museum was pretty interesting in some ways. I definitely took interest to the sculptures that depicted many Asian cultures, specifically Buddhist, and Indian cultures. Aside from the sculptures though, there was not much else to keep my interest. I feel as though a little bit more interactivity would have caught my interest more. All in all, i thought it was an “okay” trip.

My name is Michael Commissiong, I live in Brooklyn, and I have just recently turned 18 years old. My family and I are from the island of Grenada, in which I had lived there for about a year. In my free time, I like to hang out with my friends, play handball, and breakdance. Starting college, I was originally quite nervous of how I would make new friends and the amount of work that would piled onto me. However, in one way or another, I was quite relieved. People in my classes are friendly and social and my teachers are very welcoming and understanding. I would hope to eventually find some kind of career or purpose in life that I’d strive to pursue in college, though that has not happened yet, I am slowly but surely coming to a conclusion. Growing up in a poor but extremely family oriented household, I learned that the ideal purpose for one’s life is to help and support others to the best of your ability while still maintaining your own well-being as well. Hopefully, with this mindset, I shall, in time, be able to truly define what I want to do in life.

I am 17 years old college freshman born and raised in Brooklyn, NY in a heavy caribbean household. My hobbies are drawing, playing the piano, handball, dancing and pretty much enjoying life.
My top 3 concerns about my freshman year at Baruch College:
1) I am particularly concerned about the workload I will be presented throughout the year and being able to adjust to it. I somewhat feel like I am still in the “senioritis” stage of my high school, and I’m really hoping to get myself together for the future. (P.S. my apologies for the lateness)
2) Another concern was that I might come down to my occasional shyness and that making more new friends or even presenting a monologue in front of a class would be way out of my element. However, over the years, I have started to open up quite a bit and I’m hoping this shall continue.
3) I also feel that attendance and tardyness may become a problem at some point, seeing that I live so far away from the school and I am known for not being able to wake up on a morning.
What I think, would make my Baruch College experience different from my high school is definietly the fact that there is so much to do here with all of the clubs and teams etc
M first year of College i feel would make me feel a whole lot more responsible for my own academic actions, whether it be choosing my classes, knowing when to study for soon-to-come tests, making sure to hand things on time.
