a. Tell us how your experience at Baruch College has lived up to your expectations? Not lived up to your expectations? Exceeded your expectations?
At first, I really hated Baruch for how much it was just like my High School, but now, it’s not so bad once you get used to it.  I think Baruch lived up to my expectations, it’s just you need time  to get used to it.  It’s not bad.
b. How well do you think your first semester at Baruch College went?
It could be better, because I’ve been slacking a bit.  I think I need to focus more on my priorities and manage my time better.  My schedule was also great, so that helped a lot.

c. What would you do differently during your first semester if you could do it all again?
I would join a club or something, maybe.  And stop my slacking before it was too late.  I was also do my homework, which I slacked on as well.

d. How have you changed since you started at Baruch College?
Since my first week here, I’ve managed my time a lot better and I’ve been doing all my homework.  No more procrastinating.  I’ve come to like the library because it gave me a place to quickly finish my homework that would’ve taken me hours to do at home.  I hope that the winter break won’t cause me to slack again for spring term.

CareerWorkshop.

What you think you learned at the Career Exploration workshop last week

At the career workshop, we learned about STARR search which I thought was interesting and helpful, but I doubt I would ever use it.  We also learned about how to write essays, but I’ve already learned it multiple times so it was nothing new to me.  The workshop itself was alright, the speaker was inviting and clear, and the presentation was great.  I just thought it was information that you could look up yourself, so I didn’t really find it helpful.

rubin.

The rubin museum was a nice place-much nicer than I had expected.  Before Baruch, I’ve never heard of it, and although I’m not really interested in art as a person, a few things stood out to me.  I liked the statues of the goddesses and gods they had, but one of them stood out to me.  Mooshika, was a statue of the animal companion of Ganesha, and was suppose to be a mouse, but it looked more like a dog.  When you reach the fourth floor, there were simple orange stairs that weren’t too high and didn’t lead anyway, which I thought was interesting.  I loved how quiet the place was and how grand the building was.  I thought the picture of times square at high exposure was really interesting, but other than that, nothing really stood out to me.

College is sort of the same thing as high school…for me anyway.  Baruch, brooklyn tech, it even sounds alike.  Th only thing is, I’m the same lazy, procrastnating person as before, except this time, it will actually affect my education.  Freetime, independence and responsibility all came with the price of having to look out for myself, and I’m not sure I’m up to that.  I’m having trupuble staying on task and even just ttending class.  Hopefully this changes in the next year ror so, as i continue to mature along with my peers.

one.

it took me a while to find out how to post a blog, so i hope i’m posting it at the right place 🙁

a.  Tell us who you think YOU are!
I honestly HATE answering these kinda questions because they’re just so broad.  But I guess in general, I’m Emily, born and raised in Brooklyn, and 17 (still) :(.  I’m typically socially awkward in new environments and with new people, but i’m working on that.  I’m someone who loves to laugh and it doesn’t take much to make me laugh.  I’m a pretty friendly for the most part and I like going out late nights.

b.  Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why

My top three concerns are time management, procrastination, and meeting new people.  I have terrible time management and I’m always late to classes.  In college, that’s going to be an affecting factor on my classes and I hope to juggle my time equally with work, school, and friends.  I’m probably the laziest person you’ve ever meet, and i tend to procrastinate a lot.  For now, the procrastination isn’t too bad, as I don’t exactly have much work to do, but it’ll catch up to me.  In high school, i’ve always gotten away with handing in assignments late or not at all, but i dont think that’s gonna slide in college.  I’ve been so comfortable in my environment and the people in high school that I pretty much forgot how to make new friends, haha.  I’m never really comfortable in new environments, but I hope that will change throughout my semester at baruch.

c.  So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

I think what makes Baruch college so different from high school is the independence it comes with, and such short school days.  I’m definitely enjoying my 3 day weekends and half days of school.  I’m also trying to adapt by taking college a lot more seriously than brooklyn tech.

d.  How do you think your first year at College will change you?

I hope my first year of college will help me become a more responsible and mature person.  Being so independent will help me succeed in the future.
