Baruch Experience

a. My Baruch experience was okay. I think it has somewhat lived up to my expectations. I’ve met some really cool people within the last few weeks.

b. I think I did okay for my first semester. I think there is always room for improvement. I think could have done better.

c. I would have become more familiar with the campus and its facilities sooner than later.

d. I learned how to be more independent and have better time management skills.

Career Exploration

I actually learned a lot from the Career Exploration workshop. I liked how they showed us how to create a resume. They showed us what we shouldn’t and shouldn’t include within our resume. Also, I liked how they gave us advice on preparing for an interview. I thought the Starr Search part of the workshop was very helpful. I learned how I can find internships in the field I want to pursue. Overall, this workshop was very helpful for me.

Rubin Museum of Art

I thought the Rubin Museum of Art was interesting. I liked the different type sculpture they had inside. I thought that each truly depicted the Buddhist and Indian culture very well. I thought it would be even more interesting if we had a person to explain each piece to us. It would have helped make the experience a little more interesting and fun. Overall, I thought it was a good trip.

Blog #2

“Hi. My name is Shavita Persaud. I am eighteen-years old. I am Guyanese-American.  I like the color pink”, is what I normally say when I have to introduce myself, or in other words, describe who I am. But that’s not just who I am. I honestly don’t know who I am. Does anyone at this age? I feel like everywhere I go, I am asked to answer the same question or a variation of, “What would you say describes you?” I go to school and I am asked to write a blog about myself. I go to apply for a job and the first thing I am asked at the interview is to describe myself. Try to make new friends and I am required to say something that describes me. I don’t know who I am, so I keep it vague.

Although I may not know who I am, I do know this. I am a daughter, granddaughter, niece, best friend and friend. I am honest and hate liars. I am a perfectionist and I am competitive. I am extremely sweet. I am funny.  I care too much about the people close to me. I am a fighter. I am not weak. I am on a journey to find me and what makes me happy.

So, does that describe me?

A. My name is Shavita. I am eighteen years old. I am friendly.

B. My top three concerns are maintaining a good GPA, managing the heavy work load, and fitting in. Now that I am in college I think it’s really important for me to put 150% into maintaining a good GPA. Secondly, I need to learn how to keep up with all the homework and find time to study for each test. Finally, my last concern is fitting in. I feel like I still haven’t found my place in the school as of yet.

C. I think the enormous amount of people that goes to this school is a major change for me. My high school was a very small. Everyone knew about each other. At Baruch I meet new people everyday. Also, I love that amount of freedom we have.

D. I think my first year in college will help me become more independent and responsible.
