A.  I am Korean-American, and also have a relaxed personality. I am 18 years old, and live in Queens, NY. I like to play and have fun.

B. My top 3 concerns in college are the amount of reading I should do, transportation to school, and my major. There are lots to read; transportation to school is more than 1 hour, and picking majors is pretty much a big gamble on starting your life.

C. The thing about college is that the world acknowledges you as an individual with responsibilities. Unlike high school, college gives more freedom by letting us choose our own classes. Also, there is more independent studying to be done. College is preparing for life in the world, while high school was for preparing someone to learn of the fundamentals.

D. I believe I will become more independent and apt in whatever I do, and in getting ready for my future.

a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
Ok. So I am 18 and obviously and just started collage. The vast majority of my free time is spent on the soccer field. When I am not playing soccer I am refereeing or watching it is a huge part of my life. I like to think that I am a hard worker and that a trustworthy person but what do I know?

b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why
My top three concerns about my freshmen year are these as followed the workload, they say that every hour you spend in class you should spend two hours studying outside of class and I fear that I don’t have the self-discipline to achieve on any type of consistent basis. Another concern I have is money and money management collage is expensive and living in New York city is defiantly expensive and I only work part time and the third concern I have is the level of difficulty in my classes if I will be able to do well and succeed in collage.

c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
To compare my high school to Baruch isn’t even possible. In my high school my entire grad was a total of 36 kids and in Baruch I am in a class with at least 70 people so its two totally different experiences.

d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
My first year of collage is also my first year of becoming an adult and so with it I hope to become more mature and independent

Freshman Seminar Blog

A. Im just a regular kid going to college to get a degree.  Im also korean, and thts about it.

B. My first concern about freshman year is trying to stay focused in class.  In highschool I never really paid much attention in class and that really screwed me up so Im gonna have to try to pay attention to what the teacher says.  My second concern is to try to not fail.  Im really worried that I am going to fail a course and to prevent that I will probably have to study hard.  My third concern is getting too much work from each course.

C. I dont think going to Baruch is that much different than going to highschool.  Besides the fact that I have to take the train and bus everyday and my commute is about an hour.  The only difference is that I used to drive to my highschool everyday and it was a 5 min.  Now that I dont have a car anymore because it broke down I cant drive to school.  Also teachers dont call your parents about grades here, everything is based on my responsibility.  All they do is teach and everything else you have to do on your own.  Transportation and teachers are really the only difference between highschool and college everything else is basically the same.

D. I dont think that going to college is going to change me to much as a person, but I think it will help me be more independent.  Going to college in the city makes me more independent now because I dont live with my parents anymore and have my own place which takes alot of responsibility and Im still adjusting to it.  I think doing everything on my own now, I think by the end of this year I will be more responsible.

a.  Tell us who you think YOU are!

West Philadelphia, born and raised; on the playground is where I spent most of my days. Chillin’ out, maxin’ and relaxin’ all cool – I was shooting some b-ball outside of the school: When a couple of guys (they were up to no good) started making trouble in my neighborhood. I got in one little fight and my mom got scared and said, “You’re moving with auntie and uncle in Bel Air”.

I eventually moved to New York and became the person I am today. There’s not much else I can say about myself. If you really want to see my likes and interests and all that stuff, add me on facebook.

b.  Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why

My top three concerns are having to deal with a college workload, money management and finding time to sleep.

My courses aren’t difficult (they are a little challenging but nothing I can’t handle) – it’s the workload that I am having trouble with. It’s not always actual homework either – sometimes it’s just a lot of reading. It’s been years since I’ve done so much reading- in high school, all I had to do was print out and read the Sparknotes (hahaha) but now the readings I have to do are readings from texts or obscure works of literature.

c.  So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

I CAN’T USE SPARKNOTES ANYMORE.

d.  How do you think your first year at College will change you?

I hope my first year of college will make me more responsible and at the same time, more fun. Finding the right balance of both is key to having a great college experience (or at least, that’s what I’ve heard).

Assignment One.

So here we go…

1. I think that for the most part im a down to earth , friendly, and social person. I’m easy to get along with and im usually nice to everyone =] Academically i like to think that im smart for the most part. Or atleast i try to be. But more imporantly im super motivated and when i know i want to achieve something i stay dedicated to it.

2. My first concern would be just passng all my classes and doing well on all my exams. Maintaining a good GPA is SUPER important to me.

My second concern is my job, i work part time, so it can be a little overwhelming between my job and all the school work.

My third concern would be making sure that i keeep up with all the requirements as a freshmen, and that i dont fall behind.

3. I think, for the most part, Baruch is very similar to my high school, with the exception that its alot bigger. The only difference would be the freedom that comes along with the college experience and also the self dependency part, you pretty much have to do everything for yourself, there isnt really any authority spelling out for you, what yu need to do or not, its al pretty much up to you.

4. Im hoping that my first year will teach me how to be independent, and will also give me major time management skills. i think after my first year, ill just be alot better at things like multitasking and learning to deal with stressful situations.

a.  Tell us who you think YOU are!

I am…shy, sarcastic, artistic(maybe?), and just another Chinese student trying to pass their classes, get a job, etc. I don’t really know how else to describe myself.

b.  Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why

My top three concerns would have to be:                                                                                     1) Exams- because I am not the type to study a lot. On tests I end up doing not so well due to this habit.                                                                                                                                      2) Homework- I procrastinate a lot and end up doing things at the last minute. I feel like this affects my overall grade a lot, especially in english.                                                                3) Participation- I am not the type to raise my hand and talk a lot in class discussions. It’s not something I feel obligated to do because there will always be others participating anyway.

c.  So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?

I’m not sure what would make it as different except that the teachers pay more attention to you, which was not the case in my high school classes. It also relies heavily on studying and reading by myself instead of depending on the professors. In other words it requires for me to be more responsible and careful about my actions because no one will tell me what to take or what I am doing wrong.

d.  How do you think your first year at College will change you?

I am hoping it will help me be more responsible and confident of my abilities. However it does not seem like there was a big change from high school. It feels like freshman year all over again.

-END-..wow I wrote really little.
