LC 09

My first semester is going to finish. I think I have made a good decision to chose to go to Baruch College. I make some new friends this semester, they are very nice. We almost have all the same class, so we can communicate often. Furthermore, we can study together. I am amazing that what a good immersion of studying we have. Importantly, I get good education. All of the professors are very very good. They are patient  answer every question I have. I know a lot of knowledge I do know before. Anyway, I enjoy my first semester in Baruch College very much.

 In STARR Career Workshop,  the advisor teaches us how to write a regular resume. This is really helpful. I has never write a resume before. If i am going to apply for a job, I have no idea what to write in my resume. If i just write a resume that is not regular format, I may lost my opportunity for this job. So a resume is really importatn. She also tell us about the interview. I haven’t had any interview befor. After she talks about interview, I have idea that what interview going to be, and what to do for interview.

As a freshman, I do not really understand what should I do to register my class of next semester. My first semester is arranged by school. Firstly, I do no like it because I feel it is not flexible enough for me to choose the class. However, when I know how many things I should do to register classes. I prefer my class has been arranged rather than I do it by myself because I should see how many seats left and what is the time of the class. Sometimes, we have troubles just because we have choices.  Anyway, this semester is going to finish, I hope I can enjoy my next semester and have good grades.

   We attended this workshop on last week. It was a really helpful workshop to me. The introductor was nice and carefully tought us what courses required to us and what kinds of courses we have to take on next semester. And I also realize we have take some selective courses with or after finish requirments. And introductor told us many suggestions. I also asked some questions about credit. She clearly told me these answers. It  was a nice workshop.

I understand how to make a good interview. Such as how to shock hands and how to make a resume. This is very important. From the presentation today, I know I have made so many mistakes. I remember I once had an interview of Macy’s, when I finished all the questions, the interviewer asked me if I had some questions. I said “NO.” It is such a big mistake because it show I do not really care about this work. Furthermore, I have learned what should I write in a good resume. So this workshop is pretty useful for me.

     At the begining of this semester, I can’t join into college society. I was still in the status of high school. I feel so bad at every class, because i feel i was the worsest one in the class. I couldn’t even understand what the professor talks about. I thought that college is not for me.  But now, i am still in college.  Every thing is fine. I have to work hard to catch up everyone.

Academic advisement workshop is very helpful for me. I had no idea about what course to study for next semester before this workshop. This workshop just come in time. Now, i am ready to chosset my courses for next semester, becasue i know what courses are need for my major. Also, the advisor gives good presentation during the workshop, she gives her experiences and recommendation which are really helpful.

Visiting the United Nations Headquarters was pretty interesting in the beginning, at least, because I had not been there before. Nevertheless, it turned out to be very disappointing. In the history of the UN I do not see any decent achievements. This is a “monster” organization with a huge budget. But it does not help. The UN as an organization is just a clumsy bureaucratic machine, which does not deserve to exist because it’s useless. America gives the UN 22% of its budget. Why? I do not know. This is nothing more but “flushing money into the toilet.”

The tour guide was extremely unprofessional. She raised the controversial issue of Israel and Palestine. I thought in the UN at least tour guides should be more objective (neutral). She was not in her own house talking to her friends, she was on duty. I wish she could leave her smart point view to herself. I really did not want to have a “brainwashing” somewhere outside like the UN. I’ve got enough of this at school during some classes.

The UN was created after WW II for good intentions. But, all we know that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Now the UN is just a rotten organization and utopia of global government.

A STARR Career Workshop was one of the most useful things in FRO classes. The workshop was about everything from how to write a resume to what attire you should have when being interviewed and how to accept or reject an offer. STARR Center gives all student incredible opportunities to acquire and shape their skills for getting a job. Among these opportunities are various internship programs, offered by well-known and respected companies. So, if you want to be a successful young specialist, you’d better stop by STARR Center.

i think Academic Advisement is very useful. It is helpful to us to plan the class for next semester. the advisor tell us the core cirrulumm for us to take. which one is best option to take and what is the reqirement in order to take the next leve. the advisor also teach us how to use the baruch website to check the grade and all the class that i had taken
