Rubin Museum
The Rubin Museum exceeded my expectations a bit but it wasn’t particularly interesting. I didn’t really relate at all to any of the art and I didn’t really see the point of going to the museum, but I did like the museum experience itself. I liked how it was small which is a different feel from the Metropolitan which is huge and grand in every aspect. This museum allows you to get close to the art and really take a good look at it. It helped gain a little more appreciation for the art even though I didn’t connect with it much. One piece I enjoyed though was the temple. I thought it was really interesting and the way it was set up showed meticulous detail which I found really impressive. Other then the temple, I didn’t really see the museum as an edifying experience.

Post Three
My first semester at Baruch met my expectations, but didn’t necessarily exceed them. I liked the new experience and the new surroundings. Seeing new people from different places and with different interests and ideas is a great change from high school. I think the biggest transition for me was having less class time and having much more time outside of school. I learned that college is all about making the most of your time when you’re not in class. Also, classes are much more condensed now so it’s very important that you can get all your notes down because college moves really quickly. Also, I think I need to start getting involved more in clubs and student activities. I think that would be the best way to meet people and learn even more outside the classroom. I really liked the LC idea since it helped me meet new people right away. Also it helped teach some of the resources available to students which is really important. I look forward to graduating from Baruch and meeting all the challenges ahead of me in my academic career.

Career Exploration
The Career exploration workshop really helped me brush off some of the skills I learned previous to attending the workshop. It reminded me of things I should keep on and off my resume and the best ways to present myself as I’m applying for a job or an internship. I have never really been through a professional application process so this workshop was a great review for me and many other students as well. Workshops like this are really important and can really benefit the student body. I liked the presentation and how it gave examples of good and poor resumes. I think it showed us a great resource to help us find jobs and internships at the STARR center. I think they should continue doing these workshops because they’re a great chance to refresh what you know while learning something new that could benefit you greatly in the future.

Academic Enrichment
I thought the panel discussion was fairly boring, but I enjoyed hearing Charles Li speak in person about his experiences. He was a pretty funny guy and had some pretty interesting social commentary such as his experience with the homeless man who left some sandwiches to eat chocolate cake instead. I felt though that the other members of the discussion did not contribute as much to the discussion. I really enjoyed some of the personal accounts the Charles Li elaborated on. I thought it was funny when he was describing the worms that he suffered while living in the slums. Also, I felt that his inclination to be with the audience was admirable. You could really tell that he wanted to connect and that he really wanted to show the audience what it was really like to live a life like his. I enjoyed this workshop and I hope there are similar ones in the future.

Monologue
Dear God,
Please give my English professor sunglasses. She keeps looking at me.Also, please make the weekends longer. I need more Sunday. It’s not that I don’t like school, in fact, I’m pretty happy with this semester so far. Luckily, my classes aren’t too difficult. I was nervous that college would be overwhelming but it turns out I got lucky. I feel more empowered now that I’m in college and this time it isn’t because I have my car. I like being on my own schedule, doing my own things, and being independent of anyone around me. That’s probably what I like most about myself: strong independence. Anyway, don’t forget the sunglasses.

Who do you think you are?
My name is Andrew Metri. I come from Hicksville, NY and I’m proud of it, no matter how silly “HICKSville” sounds. I’m a brother, a friend, an employee, a fan, and a student. I love learning and I hope the next four years teach me more about life and more importantly, myself. I want to major in Business Communication but I’m not positive, so I’m leaving all doors open and hoping for the best.
Outside of school, I love playing anything that I can pick up with my friends. Any given Sunday you might find me playing basketball or football. I used to play lacrosse on the varsity squad (I wasn’t very good though) and I loved playing and competing. I’m extremely competitive and I love to win. I also enjoy just hanging out with my friends and just kicking back and relaxing over some Mario Kart or some Monopoly when we’re bored. I think it’s important to enjoy the simpler things in life when you’re with your friends, if only for the reason that those are the times that get the most laughs.
At Baruch I hope to make a lot of friends and really enjoy myself in the city environment. After Baruch, however, I hope to go on to law school and get my JD. I like the idea of being a lawyer and I really think I’m up to the challenge of law school. I know I have to keep my GPA up so i have a chance at applying to good law schools in the area. Hopefully I achieve all my goals and end up doing well in college while having a good time.
