LC 14

The Rubin Museum was unlike any other museum i been to. One particular piece that i liked was the Yantra Mandala, it was  considered a ” focus for devotion” in many temple or sacred space. The mandala was created with a lot of geometric triangles. I found this really interesting because with just these triangles put together, they can represent to the people, as gods or goddesses. The museum itself seems very fancy, there was a cafe on the lower floor and some music playing by some people. I would definitely come back some other time with a friend and finish browsing rest of the museum i didn’t see.

Registration workshop.

That lady was really um….intimidating. But what she was saying was actually helpful. I actually considered a lot of the information she gave us when i was trying to choose my classes. But, i felt like our one-on-one appointment with Analucia helped more. She (you) showed us what to do on the computer and what registration would look like. Before our meeting, i had no idea how to work degreeworks. She (you) helped me pick all the courses I want/should take. Everything was helpful though. And even though i never used/looked at that paper that the workshop lady was telling us we had to write down, I still stored some information up in my noggin to be used later when doing the actual registration process. It kinda scared me though when she was saying that we have to really think about our major cause we don’t want to be stuck in a job that we hate 40 hours a week, 5 days a week, for the rest of our lives. Scary thought. I’m actually scared now. great. well yeah.

On to the Rubin Museum!!!

Obviously the best museum ever. The people were nice and knew we were from baruch. So they were just like “ohhh yeah come on in!” something to that extent. It was a fun walk over there too. The area is really nice and sunny and nice buildings and nice plants and just everything you could possibly think of that’s nice, its there. When we got to the museum we went straight to the Buddha floor. It was probably my Asian-ness guiding me over there. We looked at a map of the Himalayas that was nice. and it had this cool weird-shaped light. We tried taking pictures of the sculptures and what not until the security guard yelled at us. I think we were being pretty loud cause i think that place had pretty good acoustics. When I was standing at the top of the stairs, I heard someone (WILL) burp through a closed door…I heard it pretty clearly too. But all in all, it was a fun experience.

MID-Semesterrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So far this semester has been interesting. It’s been a lot of new experience, a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work. I don’t think i’ve ever worked so hard in my life. Not kidding. Right now, i’ve been feeling kinda overwhelmed with all the work that we’ve been getting. But somebody said that after thanksgiving break, that’s when the real stress comes. I’m probably going to shoot myself but we’ll see. Registration was a freaking pain. My schedule sucks but I’m gonna start checking to see if anyone switches out of the classes I originally wanted. I’m a little scared for next semester just cause i know its gonna be harder and im not gonna have any friends -__- But at least i’ll have the memory of our LC =) lol No but at least a lot of people from our LC are in BUS 1000 together! woo! I’m not sure if Baruch has really changed me. Actually no it definitely has. Ive become much more of a nerd. Like I said, I worked super hard this semester. I guess that’s a good thing? In any case, I’ve worked hard and I’ve been getting good grades. So i’m proud of that. Other than that, I’m not sure if it changed me. I like the people I’ve met here though. The people in our block, the people in the filipino club that I feel like I’m gonna be good friends with for the next four years. I hope this whole Baruch thing will be a good experience when I look back on it when Im like 70. So i guess I’ll try to make everything go well here.

I am really enjoying my time here at Baruch. Because we are in a learning community, it feels like middle school again where we are all in the same class and getting along with each other so easily. My grades have improved a lot, which was due to the incentive that I had gotten from my lousy grades early in the semester. I attended a lot of meetings and conventions throughout this month, which I felt were very informative and helpful. I found it to be much more productive than just wandering around in the city like I usually do on my breaks. I also got to meet a lot of people through those events, which is always good. I’m really looking forward to the next 3 and a half years at Baruch. I hope to still stay close to all my current class mates because they have really made my college experience so much better!

The Rubin museum was really nice. And it was free! At first I thought that it was going to be a boring trip, but it turned out to be pretty interesting actually. I learned about many cultures and what art was to them. The guy didn’t let me take pictures with flash, and it was really dark, so that was a bummer. I really liked the Buddha shrine that they had up. It reminded me of my own culture. I also found the Tibetan exhibits to be pretty fascinating, in that they were like a mix of Chinese and Indian art. The environment was also very calm and relaxing, since the lighting was so dim. The designs that they had throughout the museum were very nice as well. And their bathrooms were pretty clean!
