blog post #2

(Dippy posted our monologue on her page so I’ll type what I said about myself)

Im a Pennsylvanian trying my best to become a New Yorker. I love the city but realized it is a whole different world when you actually live here. I am having a hard time balancing basketball with schoolwork and trying to stay active throught the school such as joining Team Baruch. My closest friends is the basketball team and my coaches, we’re like family and together everyday. College would be a lot easier for me if I was closer to home. I am not shy, yet I find my self alone a lot in the city. I am independent but extremely home sick, and miss my family so much.

I am friendly and hardworking. I want to be a news reporter and become extremely success at Baruch.

So I’m taking a break from stduying calc. My monologue isn’t something I can realy post on here, since it was a video. But I’ll mention a few details about myself.

So I’m energetic and happy at most times, you can say. I have a younger brother, which is enough for me lol. Swimming used to be my life sport, till I stopped in high school, but I regret doing that, and now seems like too late to get back into it. I wish I knew how to play the piano, though i can play a few songs by ear. I like to sing, was in chorus in HS, had a few solos. I like to dance, and love electronic music, oh and raving. Friends are cool, I like hanging out and such. Family’s cool too, love them more than the world.

This picture describes me, a raver’s fantasy.

Blog #2 Andy

I am an Asian. I’m shy and don’t like to talk about myself a lot as I find that details aren’t really  important. I prefer to move on and not talk about things that happened days ago because I usually forget by then or don’t care enough. Since I don’t enjoy talking about myself, most of the things in this blog are half truths.

I am in a family with most of the relatives are back in China and the family that is here sucks. I don’t feel as close to them because all these people are like my 3rd cousins or something; the point is we are barely related and they never call. Um…I’m an only child.

Likes…the internet…science, except when I have to do the math…NBA. Dislikes…too many to list. Hobbies…can’t really say I have any. Dreams…I dream of finding a dream.

This is the picture that represents me the most. I am bored and sitting on the floor, waiting for something interesting to happen. I’ve starting to lose interest in my life since everything seems repetitive. I exit high school just to do the same thing for another 4 years. woohoo. Life is boring.

My name is Dipabali Chowdhury. I like to have a good time but I know what my priorities are. I’m very understanding and easy going. I love to be around people and most of the time I’m probably laughing.

For my monologue, I worked with Ronna, Karyn and Jennifer to create a video of several skits that portray issues that an average college student faces.

Scene 1: Study First, Party Later

This skit stars Karyn as a student who receives an “F” on her paper. Ronna advises her that she needs to study more and gives her several tips on how to study.

Then we all sing “Teach me how to Study” to the tune of “Teach me how to Dougie”

Lyrics:

Karyn: Yo Ronna

Ronna: What?

Karyn: Can you teach me how to study?

Dipabali: You know why?

Karyn: `Cause Valeria loves me

Ronna:  All I need is a book that’s super poppin`

Ronna:  And those “A+’s” they be droppin`

Chorus:

Teach me how to study

Teach me teach me how to study

Everybody study, every everybody study!

Scene 2: After studying, we party!

(To the tune of Dynamite by Taio Cruz)

Lyrics

I throw my work up in the air sometimes,

Singing AYOOO, won’t get a zerooo

I want to celebrate and live my life

Singing AYOOO, Valeria, let’s go!

Hui Blog # 2

I don’t know what am i suppose to do for the second blog, but i saw people putting their monologues and putting a picture on the blog, so i just going to follow those people and put a random picture.

My monologue is about one of the most embarrassing moment. It was when i was a freshmen in high school. I took many classes and one of these classes is Spanish. In my Spanish class, we learn to pronounce words in Spanish by repeating what the teacher say. One day we were learning to pronounce stuff that can be found in a normal classroom, such as chairs, door, and desk. Door in Spanish is la puerta, so we repeat after the teacher, but i can’t pronounce the word puerta so i mispronounce it as “puta”. Suddenly the noisy classroom turn into total silent. The teacher ask me to repeat what i said again so i said it again “la puta”. Then the teacher asked me if i know the meaning of what i just said. I said “ya i know, it means the door”. Then the teacher said that the door is pronounce as la puerta and told me that la puta is a bad word. My teacher never told me what it means, but told me to ask other students. So in the end i found out that “puta” means b i t c h in English. This was very embarrassing because i said the word “la puta” pretty loud and everyone in the class heard me said it.

Maxine Cutler, Blog #2

So I really don’t remember the specific things that I said during my monologue, but I do know that I talked about how I want to major in English, and eventually become a writer. I also talked about Harry Potter – my favorite book series of all time and just one of my favorite things in general – and how inspirational I find the author, JK Rowling, to be.

Other than that, I mentioned that I have 3 brothers and no sisters, which makes me a little bit of a tomboy – I grew up watching my brothers play video games, so I enjoy playing them (when I have time) as well. My favorite games would be the Legend of Zelda series.

I also said that I like to draw in my free time, but that it’s more of a hobby than something I would actually pursue – writing is my real passion. 😛

I’m going to post a link to my deviantart here, which is where I post some of the stuff I draw, and a few poems I’ve written: http://xoxlabella.deviantart.com/gallery/

I also recently won a Harry Potter fan contest, which combined by love of writing with my love of Harry Potter – the prize wasn’t that great, but it felt nice to win 😛 http://www.mugglenet.com/app/news/show/3880

The picture I’m posting of myself isn’t necessarily a favorite picture of myself, but I’m wearing one of my favorite Harry Potter shirts in it, so I thought it sort of fit into my monologue.

Ali Darvish post #2

Here’s what I remember saying during my monologue:

Me: What should I talk about?, hmm I don’t know what to talk about.  what did other people talk about? you guys want to hear about stocks?

Audience: (75% quiet, 25% said yea) Someone talked about peeing. (laughter).  Who’s the person in your profile pic?

Me: Oh, that’s Jesse Livermore.  He’s one of my idols.

Audience:  who was he?

Me:  Ok so, he was a speculator, and he traded stocks and commodities, and I do the same thing, which is why he’s on my profile pic.  The guy was worth around 100 million at his peak, and this is like 80 years ago, which would make him a billionaire in today’s money.  (then i talked about his biography).

Audience:  So do you do anything else, other than things related to financial markets.

Me: Not really (talked about how indecisive I am)

Audience: Did you play any sports?

Me: Well, I played lots of sports, but I never stuck to any of them.  It’s not that I’m a quitter, it’s just that I’m really indecisive.  Also, because I wasn’t born here, so I didn’t grow up playing sports.

Audience: where are you from

Me: Iran, came here when I was nine

Audience: never would have guessed.

Me: yea, I speak pretty well because I talk a lot.  so getting back to the sports thing (I droned on about my middle school)

Audience: Ali, your time is up

Me: no I’m just getting into it, I’ll be done in a couple of minutes

Audience: what other sports did you play?

Me: blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah…..

Audience: Ali, really your time is up, other people have to talk too

Me: ok

That pretty much sums up my monologue.  I was up there for a long time, so I didn’t want to take up too much space on this blog.

Sam Lee Blog #2 (Hazel Bagel)

I see,

Hazelnut cream cheese

On a hazelnut bagel.

Bit too much hazel,

Not enough bagel.

Taste-able,

Incredible, this bagel must be

Warm, toasty,

Oh-em-gee.

But wait wait wait,

A hole in this bagel?

In the center is absent,

A portion of hazel

Unacceptable!

This former hazel

Ex-bagel,

Is no longer enjoyable

A hazel with a hole

Is a bagel without a soul.

And yet, a bagel without the hole

Is no different from an ordinary roll

Or a bun,

So to be cinnamon, raisin,

Would be synonymous to be, human

Because everyone at least,

Has one missing piece.

Like pieces of pastry,

Without the yeast.

Which eestablishes,

That it’s normal to be incomplete

Like this bagel I was about to eat

At least until, you meet

That someone that you keep

Dreaming of in your sleep

The better half of your soul,

Whose hazel eyes

Fills that heart inside

Just as a bagel’s hole,

Should be hazel-full.

Blog #2 My Familia (Michael Li)

To know about me, you must know about my family. I am the only one born in America. I have 2 older brothers, a mother and father. One of my brothers, age 25, has down syndrome and severe mental retardation. His name is “De We”, a poorly translated way of saying David.  He has the brain capability of a 2 year old or younger. My mother doesn’t go to work and usually stays home to takes care of him.  He is basically like a big baby in the family because he can’t really do anything by himself other than eat/sleep. De we used to go to special training schools to learn mechanics of a young child, but he never really learned much. After graduating, he hasn’t gone to any more training schools (he didn’t like going). Now my mom fully takes care of him from every aspect of his life and bring him out whenever my mom goes to shop around my neighborhood.

My oldest brother isn’t much better. He is a high school drop out from the 3rd worst high school in Queens. He has a 7 year old half chinese-half spanish daughter and a son coming from the same girlfriend. He used to steal from the family, especially me, and was never home. He gambles, drinks, smokes and was unemployed for the majority of the past 10 years. He was arrested twice. He was a model for me, a model which I would never follow.

As I said, my mother doesn’t work and stays home most of the time. She is as great of a mother anyone can ask. My dad works as a cook in a local Chinese restaurant. He works 11 hours a day, from noon to almost midnight. He works at minimum wage, so he works more hours to help provide for the family. He also delivers food at times to earn extra tips to give me for spending money (A reason I usually bring food from home to eat).

I live in a predominantly West Indian and Hispanic neighborhood. I was the only Asian boy in my elementary school, and one of two Asian kids in middle school, which has toughened me up a bit. It was a big change for me when I went to Bronx Science, which has a majority of Asians. Even with a tough family to grow up in, I’m pretty “normal.” I am very big on sports, and play multiple sports (Mostly Football and Basketball). I’m just like most Asians in the aspect where i play computer games a lot. I’m aiming for a high GPA so I could eventually help my family financially. I need to get good grades, to help give me a better opportunity to establish a ground for a good career. I try to do my best to help my family. BUT truthfully, I’m a pretty “chill” guy who does what he has to do (I only try hard if i really need to).

My dad, mom, Cousin behind them, niece, Oldest brother, me standing on a chair, De We in the white, Mirna my brother’s GF, my uncle, cousin, aunt
