Academic Enrichment
The panel was pretty interesting when Charles N. Le spoke. I finally had a voice to put behind what I read before. Then there was this one woman, who I was pretty sure talked during the freshman orientation and said the same exact thing, so that was a bit boring. Really the only part I liked about it was getting to hear Li speak.

Academic Enrichment
I liked what the people in the panel had to say about identity although a lot of it I already felt like I knew. It was interesting to see the different backgrounds and countries they came from and how that affected who they were. All of their situations showed the struggles they went through to try and figure out their identity. One of the women in the panel spoke about how she had to move several times as a child and then did not really have a place to call home. At first, I thought moving a lot would be fun because you get to explore different countries and cultures but after her speech, I saw how that can really affect someone’s identity. Overall, I thought this workshop was beneficial to freshman because that is why a lot of people go to college, to find out who they are and what they will do.

I honestly thought it was a good seminar to everyone, teaching the right etiquette at business meetings. Many things seemed obvious but it was good to refresh our memories on important stuffs that we need to know. I liked how they had powerpoint presentation to point out the different types of resumes and attires for the interviews. I’ll use the information from this workshop to help myself to do better in future job interviews and internships

Academic Enrichment
Baruch College invited Charles L. Ni to have a panel discussion with group of freshman students, and I thought it was a great idea. But however, timing was bit off. I understand why this panel discussion was held during the club hours, when freshmans do not have classes, but they should have ended it bit sooner to give us bit longer lunch break. That was something to work on next time. The panel discussion was okay…and I don’t remember too much from it because the beginning was boring and I was dozing off. I had a hard time trying to make my self to stay awake during the entire event. Overall I thought it was a good event for the freshman students to understand about their personal identity

Academic Enrichment at Mason Hall
The four individuals who spoke at this assembly were Charles N. Li, author of The Bitter Sea, Katrin Hansing, a professor of Baruch College who teaches Black and Hispanic Studies, Tashi Chodron, a spokeswomen for the Tibetan Resettlement Project, and Bruce Payne, a director and teacher from Duke University. Each speaker was mentioning the idea of identity. Each speaker was somehow mixed and made them wonder what kind of identity they hold. I didn’t really expect this to happen. When Academic Enrichment came to my ears, I thought it would be about taking academic opportunities in college. I guess I was quite surprised.

This blog will be about the second workshop that took place. The workshop was about the STARR Career Development Center. The center is intended to help Baruch students plan ahead and prepare on how to apply for a corporate job. They show you how to dress for an interview and how to present yourself when you speak. This was very useful because I think it’s important to set up a good first impression. It’s also important to do some background research on a company or corporation you are interested in. It shows how interested you are in your job hunt. It’s also important to send the interviewer a thank you e-mail within a 24 hour period after the interview. The person took their time to interview you instead of doing anything else. You should be courteous and thankful for that opportunity.

Hi my name is Michelle Lam.I live in Staten Island which is very far from Baruch College. I commute to school everyday. At first the commute was extremely annoying but now I’m kind of use to i. But its still very time consuming. So i rather dorm.
The college experience in Baruch isn’t so different from high school. I think its cause were in a block and we’re traveling together. Maybe next semester would be more “college”. The work that is assigned and required is definitely more then high school’s work. The material that is taught isn’t hard but is it a lot to in take.
One of the things i love the most is food. Everyday, people eat. But every person has different expectations on what they eat. Some might like bland foods. Some sweet. Some salty. Some savory. And many more. Food can have many meanings and purposes as well. To some its a means for survival (unfortunate but true). To some its just to fill their stomach and get on with their lives. But to many people like me, its a way to enjoy life. Every time I indulge in a piece of rich, creamy, moist chocolate cake, it puts a smile on face. Life’s too short, you gotta enjoy it some how .

Hi! I’m Jane Choi. I like to do things that are fun and exciting. Like shopping. I really like to shop. If there was a job out there that just paid me to shop, I would totally take it. And even though I’m pretty bad at sports, I really love to take part in them. Like swimming. I think swimming is really relaxing and I love the water. I also really like tennis. It’s a really exciting sport. I even went to West Point for a two week tennis camp. No joke. And golf. I was on the golf team in high school and it was fun. I think golf can be really boring for a lot of people, but I like it. But it frustrates me sometimes because it’s a mental game and sometimes when you start off bad, you just can’t get out of the slump. I think snowboarding will become my new obsession though. I only went once so far and even though I came back with my butt bruised so bad I couldn’t sit on them for a while, it was really really fun. I am hoping to be able to go again this winter break with my friends and hopefully spend a couple days up in the mountain so I can actually improve. And I really want my own board!!
