Stepping Stone
by Wong Jonathan
A few months passed and the first semester is already coming to an end. I have got to say my first semester at Baruch College has been a new experience. It took some time to get used to the college life style but I have no doubt I have made a successful transition from high school.
I believe Baruch College has lived up to my expectations. There is a tremendous amount of competition at Baruch and it has proven to be a great challenge to keep up. Aside from the many classes Baruch College has to offer, there is a wide range of extracurricular activities to form better students. There are also a number of different departments and facilities that have been designed to help students on their studies and I greatly appreciate it.
Although at first I had seemed to be overwhelmed with work, I learned to manage my time and in that process discovered a little more about myself. I discovered I am more attentive in classes during the afternoon. I learned the best time to do doing homework is in the morning. I feel I have changed to adapt to the college atmosphere. I have done more work in my first semester at Baruch College than I have done in my whole senior year in high school. What I mean is I discovered a harder working side of me and I intend to exercise that side to be the best I can be.
My first semester of Baruch College has been great. I feel I have done well in my classes and I should receive a fairly good grade. I have met a handful of new people and I discovered a little more about myself. However, my first semester would have been even better if I had joined a club or team. That way I could begin building my resume and at the same time meet new people and learn new things. Unfortunately my shy personality has got the best of me but I do look forward to joining some sort of extracurricular activity.
In the end my Baruch experience has been fascinating. I am satisfied with what Baruch College has to offer and happy with the progress in my classes. In addition I learned more about myself and I discovered a side of me that is eager to learn. Overall I believe, my first semester has truly been a stepping stone to building a greater future for myself.

Dining Etiquette 12.2.2010 12:30pm-2:15pm
by Jin
The Business Dining Etiquette was probably the most interesting event I have been to since the beginning of the semester. I presumed at first the event was just going to be informative and dull, like every other workshop in the multipurpose room. But once I stepped in, I saw round tables set up and food on the side, I realized Baruch has finally learned to offer students the environment we need to learn=D. I got some food and sat down at a table with Han, Sean, Johnathon, Weiyao, and a random kid. I listened closely to the speaker from Kentucky while I ate. She taught us the etiquette of business dining- the rules of how we should act and eat in business occasions. Some of the common rules include napkin on laps, no nose blowing, no sneezing, shut phone off, etc. If necessary, take everything outside. More importantly, don’t take a drink and plate at the same time in a buffet, because there are chances of running into ex girlfriends and impulse for hugs. Another essential principles are never order the most expensive item on the menu, never consume large amount of food, focus on the conversation, because it’s all about the conversation, never about the food.
The Dining Etiquette Luncheon was informative and chill, I learned the effective business meal tactics, some dining do’s and don’ts, etc. I am glad I went.
PS. I ran into two Johnathon during the event and I talked to them both, later i realized it was his twin.

FRESHMEN SEMINAR
by wendi.huang
As a freshman, I don’t have any experience at Baruch. Just feeling the courses were a littele hard for me. I drop some classes because getting low grade in midterm. But I would take them again for high grade. I still believe that the more you pay on something, the more you will get from it! So we should be to spend more time in study that is very important. At school teachers teach us not only knowledge. But also how to be good. It’s making us understand how to plan correctly our ways in the future. During my first year of college, it will be an unforgettable start. Otherwise, As for me, I get some change, like to participate in school activities and have benefited a lot. If I could do it all again, I think everything will be better. Thanks Michelli Li for taking care of us in this semester.
